We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Credenda. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Credenda below.
Credenda, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
We are incredibly happy being in the music world and we couldn’t imagine doing anything else! One of our favorite things about being a band is inspiring and reaching people with our songs. It’s always a special thing to hear how our music has touched people at a personal level. Songwriting is one of the most powerful ways to build community!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a family vocal harmony band that consists of Daniel Bruton, Barbara Bruton, Anna Bruton, and Jonathan Bruton. We officially started as a band in late 2013 in our local music scene in and around Boise, Idaho. After attending our local songwriters forum..The Idaho Songwriters Association in 2015, we met Steve Eaton, who’d worked in Nashville in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, whose songs had been recorded by groups such as The Carpenters and The Righteous Brothers. Steve recommended that we should visit Nashville to check out the music scene there. We finally made that trip in the Spring of 2017, eventually making the big move later that year. We’ve been based in the Nashville music scene for just over 5 years and have since had the privilege of working with such amazing and accomplished people as Grammy nominated and 2x Dove Award winning singer songwriter Kim McClean on our first EP that we released in 2019. Kim has worked with such iconic artists as Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton as well as having her songs recorded by such artists as Tim McGraw, The Martins, and Cilla Black. We’ve also had the opportunity to play the iconic Johnny Cash Storyteller’s Museum stage with Mark Alan Cash in 2021. These days we host The Songwriters Showcase in downtown Nashville at Copper Branch Vegan Restaurant every Tuesday, Wednesday, 1st and 3rd Friday, and Saturday from 5pm-8:30pm where it’s always our distinct honor and privilege to showcase some of Nashville’s finest singer songwriter talent! We also play rounds around town at some of our favorite spots such as The Commodore Grille and Millennium Maxwell House. We‘ve been told that our harmonies are stunningly impactful and untypical in their composition. We’ve also been told the community that we’ve built with our showcases is constructive and supportive and is a good place to discover singer songwriter talent in Nashville.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
We feel the best way for people to support artists and creatives is to invest your time, energy, and resources into promoting local concerts, art shows, and events as well as promoting bands you’ve discovered on your own social media. Since the majority of shows are free or at most a very affordable ticket price there’s a high level of accessibility to incredible talent at the local level. The support means so much to the bands and artists! There is nothing more powerful and encouraging than fans supporting local talent. We believe the local music scene has so much to offer and for people to discover! In summary, fans supporting their favorite artists and bands in the spirit of community is the best way to create a thriving creative eco system!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Quite simply put, the most rewarding aspect of being a band is getting feedback from new fans about how the music has impacted them! We love to connect with the audience. Being able to create new music and perform it for people is one of the best parts of being in the music industry. We also love the opportunity to meet some really cool and interesting people.
