Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to CREAM CAMINO. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi CREAM CAMINO, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Hands down it’s our latest unreleased project which actually has a single, “Little Babe”, due to be streaming everywhere Sunday, November 27, 2022. After a fun summer of shows at festivals and fairs, we’ve been hard at work in the studio to bring to our fans and new listeners what Cream Camino sounds like now that we’re a four piece.
You see, Cream Camino started out with Jeff Manning on vocals/guitar and Jon Gunder on drums bringing to light the songs Jeff had created acoustically. “It was a meaningful project to us to bring these songs to life so Jon and I spent a lot of time in 2015/2016 recording our first album, “Dames & Disbelief”, really with zero intention of ever releasing it to streaming platforms.” says Jeff Manning.
Jarrod Pinkerton joined Cream Camino in 2017 and thus we were able to play live shows with a much fuller and complete sound that better portrayed what was recorded on our first album. We released our “Dames & Disbelief” globally in 2018 and soon after released a 5 song EP, “Closer to the Bridges” in 2019 with two singles to follow. Jarrod certainly added a solid bass line who keeps surprising us with musical talents (he rocks a mean harmonica and mandolin). It wasn’t until JC Young joined in 2021 that we could really explore how we could bring a collective new creative sound that was still true to Cream Camino. Having two guitars has just been so fun we have been really looking forward to sharing this new project with everyone.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Cream Camino is a 4 piece alt-rock band from Columbus, Ohio. We have released globally 2 albums, and 2 singles, with a new single, “Little Babe” releasing on 11.27.22. It’s been a dream of Jeff, Jon, Jarrod, JC’s to have fun performing in a rock band and that’s exactly what they have achieved. “We’re brothers touring or not. It’s always a good time.. I look forward to everything we do!”, says JC Young.
So much hard work has been put into this project and although we’ve had the privilege of opening for some amazing musicians, we all still have full time different day jobs. We’d love to be able to make this our full time job, and not just a weekend thing that pays for itself. But mostly, we’re proud that we’ve been able to have a great time, create great memories, meet people in new places in that we would of otherwise never had the opportunity to do so. We’ve remained independent so far and that’s something to be proud of because it’s a lot of hard work and we’re all chipping in.
Cream Camino has radio-worthy original tunes and cover songs that make it feel like you’re hearing the song for the first time again. Cream Camino is recognized as one of the most compelling acts in the Midwest, and has experienced touring that has involved opening for Halestorm at the Delaware State Fair, Orianthi, Jack Russell’s Great White, Firehouse, and more!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
We’ve had so much fun doing what we love, and that’s performing and creating music. It’s been an absolute honor to play for so many people that have never heard of Cream Camino before. We love getting to meet people everywhere we go and the time we have together is golden. Getting to do this for a full time living would mean generating the revenue and support to financially provide so much more than for just the 4 of us. It takes a brilliant and dedicated team and we’ve been so fortunate in that regard. We would love to bring Cream Camino to so many more people and keep bringing that good vibe everywhere we go.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Share something you like with someone. It could be going to see a local musician who’s playing in town for a $10 cover charge with a friend. Win-win, you’re supporting a local artist in a local business. Or even just sharing a song by texting a YouTube link to a friend – that’s free! Support doesn’t always have to mean spending money. Support looks like a follow, a share, a CD purchase, or even just telling your friend you think someone is dope!
