We were lucky to catch up with Craig W. Cutler recently and have shared our conversation below.
Craig W., appreciate you joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
You know, kindness is everything. One of my most valuable life lessons is simply: “So You Sow, So Shall You Reap”. It’s a simple Truth – as a human being, and especially as an Artist. There are so many people that have been kind to me, over the years – lifting my work into the limelight, buying my work, buying more of my work. I’ve been promoted by Designers, was invited to be a Featured Artist at The Waldorf Astoria, and was even promoted at The Academy Awards – all because people wanted to help me! So I have had the wonderful good fortune of kindness throughout my career.
Craig W., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My technique has been developed over the past 20 years. It a combination of heart and science. My Artwork comes from my heart and my imagination – the ‘process’ comes from science (and technology). I use the most advanced camera systems available to capture my ideas and concepts – the mind blowing 150 million pixel PhaseOne system, a few modern Leica’s and also Nikons’ latest cameras and lenses. This was my beginning – a professional photographer. Then as I had studied Art for many years – I wanted to take my work much further – more artistic, more unique, more heart. I use over 26 different pieces of software to develop and paint my Artwork. I’ve done this for so many years that my work has become very unique and identifiable. It has a style that has become my brand.
It’s a blast and I still get excited every day … I create on Canvas, Metal, Wood, Acrylic, and Print in all sizes (my largest Artwork is over 10 feet). I sell throughout the American West and throughout the U.S. to designers and collectors with sales from Las Vegas, Dallas, Fort Worth, Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta, High Point, Park City, Los Angeles, Malibu, Orlando, Beverly Hills, Chicago, and Manhattan. In 2019, my sales expanded into Canada & Europe.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFT’s are another level of ART. They represent a clever marketing and sales path for sure. The concept rose quickly and people made a lot of money. I did not walk that path – but hold nothing against that formula.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I suppose my goal would be to create emotion. Much of my Art features horses, bison, cowboys, and really The American West – it is how I started. If I can convey the connection, or love, or respect from the animals in my work – I am thrilled and that’s a goal, always. I’ve delivered work before and the client cried – I was overwhelmed. If I can portray the truth and honor of the American Cowboy – their bravery, their courage, their dedication, and even their Faith – I have worked properly.
