We recently connected with Coye Parrísh and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Coye, thanks for joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
Who is my hero? Julia Fox. I know it might raise some eyebrows, but hear me out. Julia isn’t just a name you casually drop at a dinner party—she’s an icon. A force in the realms of fashion, film, and unapologetic self-expression. Julia embodies everything I admire: boldness, beauty, luxury, and authenticity. She’s not here to blend in; she’s here to carve out her own space.
Let’s start with her style. Julia Fox’s fashion isn’t just about clothes; it’s a lifestyle. Her aesthetic is this unapologetically raw, yet ultra-polished approach to luxury—think haute couture meets gritty street style. Her looks are a mix of high-end glam and boundary-pushing rebellion. Remember the look she wore at the NGV Gala 2024, for the Yayoi Kusama opening? Her hand-woven chain dress by Catholic Guilt, paired with Matea Gluščević’s Blood Chopines and Pasco nails, wasn’t just an outfit—it was a statement, blending femininity with power, sexiness with strength, while reflecting Kusama’s artistry.
Julia has this talent for fusing the high art of fashion with the rebellious spirit of punk, and I love it. Her wardrobe is pure statement-making energy. One day it’s a dsquared2 dress that screams sophistication, the next, it’s a risk-taking look, like a sheer floral body suit that embodies timeless beauty. She doesn’t try to fit herself into the mold of “what’s trending”; she creates the trends. This is the kind of fearless approach to fashion that I admire—and it reflects my own relationship with style.
I’m drawn to pieces that make me feel fierce. Like Julia, I don’t just wear clothes—I embody them. I gravitate toward anything that makes me feel bold and opulent. I’m always on the hunt for statement-making items: oversized blazers, bold accessories, or that perfect pair of boots. Fashion for me is about creating a persona, much like Julia does, and making the world notice. Her whole vibe—raw, authentic, bold—encourages me to embrace my quirks, play with fashion, and never apologize for it. Her journey from underground New York artist to a rising fashion and cultural icon is part of what makes Julia so inspiring. She started off as a designer/model, but her versatility and creativity quickly took her to the silver screen.
Lastly, let’s talk about the culture around us. In 2023 and 2024, we’ve seen an entire generation of 20-30-year-olds pushing the boundaries of style and self-expression. Julia Fox sits right at the intersection of these cultural shifts. She embodies the attitude of this generation and is always on the lookout for the next frontier. And honestly? I just want to know more about her. What drives her creativity? What’s next for someone who’s already shown the world that they can reinvent themselves over and over? Julia Fox is more than just a hero—she’s a glimpse into what it means to live a state of pure PRESENCE.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, being an artist and creative is deeply rewarding as it offers the freedom to bring illusion into reality and share unique perspectives with the world. It’s a journey of self-expression that fosters personal growth, emotional connection, and cultural impact. In addition, artists have the privilege of challenging norms, inspiring change, and creating beauty that resonates with diverse audiences. The process of turning ideas into tangible works—whether through fashion, visual arts, or performance—brings immense fulfillment within me. Every project is an opportunity to learn, evolve, and contribute to a greater narrative, making the creative journey both a personal and communal source of joy and purpose.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
For many non-artists, it can be hard to understand the depth and complexity of my creative journey. As a Native American artist, my work is more than aesthetics—it’s storytelling, healing, and a bridge between traditions and the future. Every piece I create is a dialogue with my ancestors, a reflection of Hozhó (balance and beauty), and a challenge to stereotypes that attempt to define or limit Indigenous creativity.
What some may see as “just art” is, for me, reclaiming a voice that colonial narratives tried to erase. It’s not just about expression—it’s about survival, resistance, and legacy.
