Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cowboy Destroy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cowboy , thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
We are a punk band, so we didn’t start the band to make money. If you do that, then you better be playing in a tribute band. Rock music is no longer mainstream, so you have to do it cause you love it, not to win a popularity contest. It’s great to get paid gigs and sell merch, but that is not the main goal. If we succeed in reaching our audience and hooking them emotionally then we get rewarded financially. If we make the bar a lot of money, they will ask us back. You’ll have a better time if you understand the relationship you have with venues and you’re relationship to music lovers You’re there to throw a party and sell beers.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are the one an only slop pop band in LA. What is slop pop? Punk songs that are catchy AF. Come to one of our wild shows and listen to our music. Is rock dead? Only if you’re dead inside. So unfold those arms and come mosh. Our songs and live shows set us apart, we have great music and we put on a real show. No shoe-gazing allowed.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Just roll up your sleeves and post. By doing it you’ll learn how to do it. You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t. You’ll also learn what you hate and what turns you off, and you can use that information to help you figure out what you want to do and how you want to present yourself. We have about 25,000 followers on TikTok and it is all from posting regularly, going live, and making content that we would want to see.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Sure, but I wouldn’t have known how to properly use them or how valuable they were. You have to make mistakes. You have to learn WHY you are doing what you’re doing. You can only learn how to do something by doing it. Having help and guidance is wonderful, but you’ll get where you wanna go eventually if keep going. There’s a little story about a tortoise and a hare you might know.
