We were lucky to catch up with Courtnie McCarthy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Courtnie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken in my career so far was flying out to New York by myself to attend NYFW. I always had a dream to walk in New York Fashion Week, and it was one of my biggest goals that I wanted to accomplished. Everything went so smoothly, and ended up walking for designer (Morgan Saunders/ @officalvireosuits_) from Atlanta. The feeling of being in New York for the first time as a runway model is a feeling that I cannot describe. It may be small to others but it ment everything to me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve grown a strong interest in the modeling industry very young, and didn’t start to take is seriously until I got into college. I started of as a runway model and eventually gravitated towards print. I consider it as another form of art. I am a lover of all things art, and being in the fashion industry gives you a space to create and express yourself w/o any rules. It is one of my passions and I enjoy doing it.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Whew, this answer is about to get deep! I had such a strong passion and fell in love of the idea to be a well known fashion model. It was all I thought about and it got to the point where it was all I cared about. Everything was going well until everything stopped. I went months without getting booked, and I couldn’t understand why. I took that period to get back into my spiritual journey and God revealed to me that I was putting modeling over Him. My relationship with God is my number one priority and will always keep him first.
The lesson that I learned from that period is being able to give up the plans & expectations you have for yourself and accept the plan that God has for you. It is so easy to get caught up and fall victim into things that can take us off of our spiritual journey. I choose to share this because I know I am not the only that is going through this and my intent is to inspire others to get right with God and trust in Him that He will get you where you need to go.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding the as a creative is people acknowledging your craft. Seeing your work in other establishments will always be rewarding.
