Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Courtney Wilkerson . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Courtney , appreciate you joining us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?

People have done a lot of kind things for me through out my career. But, I truly believe one of the most kind things that’s been done.. Is by one of my close friends Brittany Rodgers. She allowed me to sleep on her couch for months in Los Angeles when I decided to move there. Her pure heart for doing that really meant a lot to me and I’ll forever be indebted to her.

Courtney , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m Courtney Wilkerson most know me as Cooley or Cooley Knows Best. I am a talent /music manager & independent A&R. All things music is what I typically say. I got into the industry at a very young age..I’ve always been interested in anything dealing with music /entertainment industry. I also believe my parents recognized it at a young age so they had me in everything from acting lessons, piano lessons, different performing choirs around Houston.

But , as I began to grow my senior year of high school I was eager to learn the business side of things. I had a permanent sub teacher in high school and she and her group were signed to Music World (Mathew Knowles Label) . She allowed me to be their personal assistant and that’s when I truly started to get my feet wet. After high school I managed my families restaurant. Learning to be a boss there and lead a team inspired me to put the same energy into music. So that’s how I decided I wanted to try music mgmt.

What I think sets me apart from others is I’m never afraid of NO. It’s only two answers in this world that holds weight to me
Yes or No. This industry isn’t meant for the weak, you have to be ready to get told no you have to prepared for no response at all. So that’s what makes me different I’m not afraid of anything closed mouths don’t get fed.

I’m most proud of staying consistent to my craft. Most would’ve given up by now.. but staying faithful to something you believe in you will always see the reward. Nothing is done over night if its good it takes a little longer stand the test of time. you’ll win eventually. Now what I want them to know about my work is everything is original and authentic I stand 10 toes down on “Cooley Knows Best’ because I do and nobody can take that away from me.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I believe one of the main lessons I had to unlearn is that everyone doesn’t move like you. Everyone may not do business like you. Doesn’t mean either is doing it wrong. You just have to be open to learning the way that works best for all parties involved.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

The mission driving my creative journey is for everyone, every little kid who once had a dream. I want to be a living testimony to them to never give up. Never stray away when you love something deeply. Others may not always understand but if you do stay at it.
