We were lucky to catch up with Courtney White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
well , growing up as a young mother in my teens I felt like I wanted to hurry and find something to do in life to benefit me and my kid so I graduated high school a year early which gave me time to be a mom and think on my future .Therefore, within that year and some months I notice I always changed my daughter hair alot or mine or family members and would get many good feedback which led me to believe It was Something I enjoy . I participated in my first lace installation class in 2020 with Tierra Nicole Polite and went to cosmetology a month later and It’s like I have been unstoppable since .
Courtney , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
If you know about cosmetology which is specifically the hair industry, makeup industry, nail art , and more ; you’ll see that its a growing industry and its a-lot of us out there which can be challenging but you just have to find what will make you different from the others and what will make others see you different . I have went to cosmetology school and have took several classes and still will book classes here and there , not only for what I specialize in but I also take business classes as well to help with spending , investments and building business credits for future purchases of my business like hopefully soon I can start my cosmetic line to complete the name .
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I remember a year ago I spent my whole savings on wigs , salon tools , hair accessories and more . I also had planned when the products came I would quit my job as a grocery store clerk being that it was so tiring in school. everyone thought I was moving too fast and that it was “stupid “ but that didn’t stop me . After I spent $3,000 or more literally all I had and everything sold and the wig install specials that I was able to do has brought me clients that still sits with me and shops with my vendor now today . This was a very successful time in the beginning of my career but I knew I needed to work on my spending , sales and budgeting more which also explains why I take business classes as well now .
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
When you’re trying to build a clientele you have to remember its not always about the money .. Its okay to run sales , have free models , give away a wig , do a friends hair to the best of your ability for free . Once someone see you’re serious , giving your all and treating them as if they’re a priority they’re guaranteed to come back or tell a friend or two and I’m speaking from experience.
