We were lucky to catch up with Courtney Wells recently and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Born and raised in Minnesota, my grandfather co-founded a commercial interior design business in the 60’s that is still running strong today. Growing up amongst fabric samples and color palettes not found in any Crayola box, it was my childhood exposure to creativity that continues to nourish my love of design today and feed my mission – “Love how you live + Love where you work”.
While my enthusiasm for design was very much etched on my soul at a young age, I continually longed for first hand involvement with anything and everything industry related. With years of experience in San Francisco as a designer in both corporate and small business, I came to realize that the launch of my own interior design company would fill my heart and make my professional dreams come true.
Landing in Colorado after living and falling in love in the City by the Bay, our young family happily traded the coastal city life for an easier Denver lifestyle. What’s not to love about bigger spaces, plenty of mountain places to enjoy, and an abundance of family and friends?! It is here where our roots are firmly growing.
With my two daughters as the inspiration behind the name of my business, Lucia and Siena continue to show me the value of looking at everything with imaginative vision. While they may not follow in my footsteps at Iowa State or move west to San Francisco, I can always marvel at the idea that one day they could be the visionaries behind LuSi Design.
Working within the design community in Denver is incredibly inspiring and rewarding. I frequently remind myself how fortunate I am to be collaborating with not only fantastic clients, but a stellar roster of retailers, vendors and showrooms. Collectively, they continue to support LuSi Design, all while I continue to thrive at the opportunity to transform houses into homes, and office spaces into places employees love to work.
Here’s to blank spaces and new beginnings!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
LuSi Design came to life in 2017 after years in the industry working with other wonderful business, it was time to create a company that provided people with a place to call their own. Whether it was a single room, an entire home, a new build or an office space, I knew bringing the experience to those in need was my passion and my mission behind LuSi Design.
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs and surrounding myself with other entrepreneurs, I knew I wasn’t going down this exciting, yet scary path all alone. With a supportive husband, family and friend network, I was beyond confident that this was my next step in my career journey! I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and grateful for those who have lifted me up, trusted in my work and gave me a chance to deliver ideas and implement plans to create a space that feels unique and personalized environment.
Every client I’m fortunate enough to work with, knows that the design process is fun, rewarding and unique to each client. I thrive on mixing functionality with comfort and style to meet the many different needs of each client. There are a lot of rules to design, yet some are worth following (spacial rules for sure are important) but others are ok to be broken. If it feels good to a client, then thats the most important!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As an interior designer, it’s always important to remember along the way we are only human, we all make mistakes. Addressing any mistakes right away and taking ownership of your mistakes is so important to both yourself and your client. Acknowledging what you should have done is showing you are resilient and being able to turn that into an opportunity to grow is something I pride myself on.
Mistakes happen, yes it might have set you back, but moving on and learning from mistakes only makes us better at our job. Being able to deliver great outcomes to my clients brings me joy, and most of the time it happens without anything major happening along the way.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The one resource I would encourage anyone in any industry is to join or create a network of other individuals in your same industry or to have a mentor. This was something I didn’t really put a lot of focus on in the very early stages of my business but quickly came to the conclusion the value it would add on multiple levels of having a reliable mentor and network in my life. Going through ups and downs as a business owner is going to happen, so sharing your journey with others that hold you accountable, help you attain your goals and keep you motivated is the key to successfully developing and evolving your business and skill set. It makes me feel as though anything is possible!!
