Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Courtney & Stacey Moeslein. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Courtney & Stacey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
Our first dollar as creatives came from freelance work with a sizeable multi-platform publication. We created a few fun recipes, including Cool Whip Cookies. The experience allowed us to grow as recipe developers and food photographers.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are Stacey and Courtney, the dynamic mother-daughter duo behind The Southern Spoonful food blog. Originally from New Orleans, we were immersed in southern food culture. The culture in Louisiana focuses on community and spending time together over a delicious meal.
When we moved to St. Louis, Missouri, many people were interested in our “different” cuisine and often asked for our family recipes. We were happy to oblige but realized there was a better way to share our favorite recipes. With Stacey’s culinary skillset and Courtney’s marketing background, we decided to take the plunge and launch our food blog during COVID.
Where we are different than other food blogs is our ingredients. We live and breathe healthy and natural living, so our recipes use clean and wholesome ingredients but still taste amazing. Our recipes balance approachable and delicious – no fancy cooking techniques or wild hard-to-find ingredients. Many of our recipes utilize ten ingredients or less and can often be found in your pantry.
Our followers have expressed an interest in our gardening tips, so we will also share gardening and lifestyle tips to accompany our recipes in the coming months.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Absolutely – there are so many resources we have discovered over the years. The most significant source of knowledge and growth has come from online groups, where creatives are willing to share how they have found success and offer tips and insights into the best tools and resources that have helped grow their community. One of our recent finds is the TopHatRank SEO for Bloggers webinars. Each episode is packed with valuable information, and is offered as a free resource.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Our mission is to teach others how to create healthy and wholesome meals at home. We are all about offering approachable recipes that can be served as a weeknight meal or at a dinner party with friends. We know the value of sharing a meal with others and want to inspire our readers to do the same.
