We recently connected with Courtney Richards and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy I hope to build would be an empowering one. One that doesn’t stray away from who I am as a creative but will set the tone for other like-minded and growing creatives around me. I think people will say that no matter what life’s curveball was at the time, I learned to adapt to my surroundings and give it my all. I hope to be remembered for my charismatic and loveable personality and my ability to be able to bring out the best in the people I photograph.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always had a strong passion for photography, ever since the age of eight years old when my mother gifted me my first disposable camera. Back then of course I was just snapping photos just because it was “the cool thing to do” at that time. But I think for me, just to be able to capture memories and people in the moment resonated with me at such a young age and still as an adult. Family and children photography would be my niche. I feel what sets me apart from others is my bubbly personality, and the ability to make people who normally would be uncomfortable just warm up to me. I am most proud of the fact that with every session I do, I can always take away something and grow from it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to make a difference in someone else’s life. Artists have unlimited freedom to use their imagination and find original ways to express themselves. Creating art takes not only drive but perseverance and once you have reached the point where you are satisfied with what you have just done, there is no greater feeling.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My particular goal or mission is to keep striving and doing what I love to do. What drives me on my creative journey is the thought of just being able to wake up every day and do what I genuinely love to do. My kids are my driving force for everything that I do. So, to be able to have them in the forefront of my mind every day gives me strength and motivation to keep my passion alive and to always do it with a smile.
