We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Courtney Lockridge. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Courtney below.
Courtney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk that I’ve taken would be starting this business without first testing the waters. From taking my classes and receiving certification, I jumped right in by securing a lease before even obtaining clients. I just knew that with properly planning, Gods grace and dedication to my goals, that I would succeed.
The drive that I have to succeed sometimes overwhelms me, but what helps is that I remember that I have to take it one day at a time. If I continue to do something everyday towards my goals, all the progress or “compound interest” will surely show up with time. I know it sounds so cliche but it really is true, consistency is the key to success. Just keep pushing forward everyday, continuously update your to do list daily and knock those things out. Every three months, look back at what you’ve accomplished and set new goals for the next three months. When you do that constantly, you’ll see your goals start to shift and move forward towards your dreams.
To accomplish your dreams, you do have to be a risk taker. My definition of being a risk taker is moving forward with something without really knowing what the outcome will be. Having faith and believing in yourself are the two things that you need in order to feel more secure about taking that risk. When you have confidence in yourself, in all that you do, taking a risk starts to look like a challenge that you can’t wait to get started on. And that’s where I see myself, constantly looking for my next challenge. One thing I do know is that when I finally get to the other side of taking that risk and it becomes an accomplishment, I’m even more excited to share my story. We all have one, what’s yours?
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
From the moment I started working in college for a self-made multi-millionaire as an Executive Assistant, I knew that I wanted that life. After being exposed to entrepreneurship, I continued to work under several CEO’s and Executive Director’s throughout my professional career. I fell in love with these individual’s determination, work ethic, financial freedom and the ability to manage their time however they wanted to. I changed my major in college when I turned 20 from pre-med to business finance and it was a wrap from there. From age 20 to 33, I started several businesses until I found the right niche in the health and wellness industry.
Throughout my health and body image journey from high school to my young adult years, I struggled with weight loss. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I realized that I had to make a lifestyle change. I vowed to stick to a low carb diet for the remainder of my life in hopes of improving my health. From May of 2020 to December of 2020, I lost a total of 50 pounds with only changing my food choices. In 2021 I noticed I needed a boost to keep me going. I took it upon myself to research non traditional ways for weight management and I came across Body Sculpting. I booked my first session with an old colleague who had started the business and I became hooked. During my session, I saw a noticeable difference in my body. I loved how I felt and I wanted other people to feel the same. The instant results from my body sculpting session made me want to continue to do the right things that were aligned with my body goals to keep my results. I drank more water, started to exercise and continued eating even healthier. It was almost like this was a hidden secret that I had revealed and I couldn’t get enough of it. I wanted to be the one that inspired people to reach their body and weight loss goals and so Shaped Secretz was born.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The most important aspect of your business is your reputation. Making sure you have the utmost customer service and knowledge about your services and products, along with a platform/software that follows up with your clients is top tier. Utilizing all three aspects will encourage your clients to write a review. Reviews and testimonials will guarantee you to obtain new clients. When we are trying something out for the first time, we make sure to check out their reviews. So when you’re building your brand, make sure to emphasize how important reviews are for your business and offer your clients with an incentive if they were to write a review or better yet a video testimonial. Push those reviews and videos on your social media and website and you’ll start to see how beneficial taking these steps to growing your business is.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Succeeding in any field is all about your consistency and commitment. I commit my time to learning and growing as an entrepreneur by being connected to educational workshops and trainings. Working alongside several mentors and coaches also gives me the accountability I need to grow my business. At times it can be a difficult task to self-motivate yourself and sometimes you need that extra push to get you to the next level. With business courses, workshops and mentoring through various organizations such as Hello Alice, Sky’s the Limit and VSEDC (Vermont and Slauson Economic Development Corporation), I am able to check in, showcase my progress and receive feedback on specific business practices. I love continuously improving my customer service skills, expanding our marketing platforms, finding additional ways for funding and learning new ways to keep our staff morale high. So make sure you get you a mentor, we can’t do it all by ourselves.
