We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Courtney Huizenga. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Courtney below.
Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
Family Business is the heart of America! I grew up with entrepreneurs & around lots of small, family businesses! From my grandmother being a flower farmer, to my grandpa running an excavating company, to my parents running their business! It’s such blessing to learn the value of a dollar at a young age & to be taught to work hard. I am thankful for kids will have the opportunity to grow up living on a farm- to learn all these wonderful skills & valuable life lessons! They will see that running your own business is not a walk in the park- it’s extremely hard- but at the end of day it’s something you created & poured your heart into!

Courtney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started The Wandering Wildflower at 21! It was the first mobile flower truck to come to NWI! Turning an ancient ice cream trailer into a mobile flower trailer was such a beautiful beginning to this whole thing we created. We know have a mobile trailer & truck, create wedding florals, & grow on several acres of flowers!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It’s kinda akward & not natural to show up on socials. You might feel like people will talk about you -Well LET THEM. By showing up and being yourself people will fall in love with your products & the people behind the products! It helps create your brand, show the reason behind the business, & creates such trust between you & your customers!

Have you ever had to pivot?
In the past two years my husband & I have had two sweet little boys into our family! This has been the biggest & best life change- also causing a pivot in life/business!
My number one job will always be my boys, so this season of life has helped me focus on the biggest branches of the WW, cutting out the extras and focusing on our main markets, custom weddings, & growing flowers. Learning that bigger isn’t better- but maintaining, pouring into what you have, & balance is what provides the best of the WW.
