We were lucky to catch up with Courtney Edwards recently and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success takes failure and to fail you have to try. If I could give any advice on how to be successful I would advise you to first, figure out what you want to be successful at, study that industry and market, and go carve out your lane. You will learn that success is a journey, not a destination.
Courtney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began my career in the entertainment industry as a casting assistant on the TV show “Empire” produced by Fox. Although my ultimate goal was to become a producer and writer, I had no prior experience in writing for TV at the time. However, I had a good understanding of storytelling. After leaving my job in casting, I started working as a freelance producer for various TV networks such as MTV, Vh1, Peacock, and Discovery. I grew my career as a producer working in unscripted and documentary formats and finally got the opportunity to write for TV. My mentor gave me a chance to co-write the final episode of The L-Word: Gen Q. Over the last seven years of building my career, I have grown immensely. Currently, my focus is on creating my own content and developing a company that uses storytelling for multimedia platforms.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have always had a passion for telling authentic stories, building communities, and making people laugh. Since I was a kid, this has been my only mission. I love to express myself, and storytelling helps me do that.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative is the ability to share stories. We are often more similar to one another than we realize, and by recognizing that we are not alone in this world, life becomes better.
