We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Courtney/Dylan Guffey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney/Dylan, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
We started CMS back in 2o15. At the time we were focused on photography only with hopes in the future adding video. In 2018 Dylan joined CMS photography and we started doing a little video work with weddings. After a year of doing video we decided to take the risk and for Dylan and I to focus on CMS Photography full time. Since doing so we have grown successful and have made so many amazing clients who endured our trust and hired us for us. We are story tellers at heart and we truly love capturing weddings.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Back in 2015 is where it began. I had a huge passion for photography. I started taking everything from newborn sessions to assisting/second shooting weddings. Quickly I realized that weddings were my favorite. The joy we capture on wedding days and the love stories clients share. After a year we decided to specialize in wedding photography. From the time our client books with us we want them to feel like they are family with us. A safe place for our clients to trust us and trust our craft. We are apart of the process from the very beginning from the engagement session to the honeymoon. We have so many clients we capture their families as well. It is a true blessing to watch our clients grow from engagement to families.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Honestly, communication. When you set a boundary with your clients and communicate they appreciate that more than anything. Be honest with your clients and set the boundary from the beginning. Communication is key and it truly goes a long way.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth. Being in the industry for almost a decade. 70% of our clientele comes from word of mouth. Rather the client is a sibling or a past bridesmaid. Word of mouth is everything to us.
