We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Courtney Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Courtney below.
Courtney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
For me, I hope my legacy will be of a woman who so deeply cared for others. I strive to empower other women. I love being able to give people a safe place to be themselves. To know that self love is not vain. That they can love themselves exactly where they are and still work to better themselves.
Courtney, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I’m a photographer. I specialize in boudoir and women empowerment. I’ve been doing photography for as long as I can remember. I’m definitely that cliche photographer story about always having a camera in hand. I started out doing really dark/horror related photos and creative portraits. I used to get all of my inspiration from poetry. I was such a hopeless romantic, but also a teen so clearly I related everything to heartbreak. I then started shooting weddings and had the most amazing mentor. I loved weddings, everything about love was it for me. I shot engagement sessions/maternity/newborns and everything else you could think of. Then I got my own studio and decided on switching it up. I still wanted to capture love, but wasn’t passionate about the long stressful days that weddings are. So I decided on self love. I started shooting boudoir a year ago and haven’t looked back since. Shooting boudoir has changed my life in so many ways. These women, have completely changed me. It is so incredibly powerful and such a beautiful process watching their confidence build. It has taught me so much about myself and about self love. I see how much insecurities hold people back, but how would you feel if you didn’t listen to them? I love giving these women a safe place to feel vulnerable. I love seeing them light up when I show them their pictures. It definitely takes a lot of courage but when you step out of your comfort zone, some of the most amazing things happen. I have built such strong friendships with these women and respect the hell out of them. I have really found myself in shooting boudoir.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Definitely. My goal is to support and empower women to not be afraid to be themselves. I want to empower them in their truest form. Women are incredible, their bodies are incredible. We shouldn’t feel ashamed of being sexy or loving our bodies.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Without a doubt the experience. And word of mouth. The majority of my clients come from instagram, but by recommendation. The shoot is more than just taking photos, it’s the whole experience. My shoots are FUN! We laugh and get to know each other. We have vent sessions and talk like we’ve know each other for years. I have a very outgoing personality and I love to make life fun. I’m also big on speaking kind to yourself and I promote that in every shoot I do. I always say that you’ll leave and we will be besties and its definitely true.
