We were lucky to catch up with Courtney Bianchi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Courtney thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
Starting a company is a thrilling journey filled with risks and rewards. Just a month into my venture, I embarked on an exciting project called esbyfest. The idea of organizing an event during SXSW 2024, featuring a fashion show, live bands, and local vendors, was a dream come true for me.
The planning process was a joy. I collaborated with incredible local businesses to host a media dinner and then brought together a talented lineup of vendors and performers for esbyfest itself. The day was magical—filled with great food, music, and unforgettable moments.
However, what came after the event was unexpected and challenging. The founders of esby, despite promises of funds, left several vendors—including myself—in a tough spot with bounced checks and unpaid invoices. To the tune of around$118K in owed funds to small business. It was disheartening to witness irresponsible business practices firsthand.
But amidst the chaos, a silver lining emerged. The affected vendors came together, forming a collective to support each other and seek a solution. This experience has shown me the resilience and kindness of the Austin business community, and I’m grateful for the camaraderie and strength we’ve found together.
While this has been one of the craziest challenges in my business journey, it’s also been a source of inspiration and connection. Working alongside fellow vendors during esbyfest and in the aftermath has reaffirmed my belief in the power of collaboration and integrity in business. Together, we’re navigating this obstacle with positivity and determination, knowing that brighter days lie ahead.
