We recently connected with Courtland Warren and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Courtland thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
After dedicating 20 years a company, I made the bold decision to step away and embark on a new path. This choice was driven by an inner voice urging me to pursue a life more aligned with my true self.
The journey began with deep self-reflection, where I assessed my core values, passions, and long-term aspirations. This introspection revealed that my current path no longer resonated with my authentic self, prompting the need for change.
Embracing this change required confronting fears of the unknown and potential failure. I chose to view mistakes as valuable learning opportunities, understanding that each misstep could lead to growth and resilience.
Building a support network of mentors, peers, and loved ones provided essential guidance and encouragement during this transition. Engaging with communities that shared similar goals offered valuable insights and motivation.
Taking actionable steps toward my new career, such as acquiring new skills and seeking educational opportunities, transformed my vision into reality. This proactive approach built confidence and momentum.
Throughout the journey, maintaining patience and perseverance was crucial. Challenges and setbacks were natural, but with a clear vision and determination, I pursued a more fulfilling career, making the risk worthwhile.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Have you ever had to pivot?
After two decades in a stable career, I made the decision to walk away and start a new chapter. It wasn’t an easy choice, but it was necessary. There was a voice inside of me that I could no longer ignore—urging me to step out of the comfort zone I had built and pursue something more aligned with who I truly am.
The process started with the realization that I did not love my life. I asked myself hard questions: What do I value most? What am I passionate about? Where do I see myself in the next five, ten, or twenty years? These questions helped me realize that I wasn’t living in alignment with my core values. I wasn’t fully tapping into my purpose.
I had to face my fears head-on. The fear of the unknown, of starting over, and of failure was real. But I’ve learned that the only way to grow is by embracing those fears and being willing to make mistakes. In fact, I tell others that increasing the number of mistakes you make can actually be a pathway to success. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn, grow, and refine your journey.
Having a support system made all the difference. Mentors, friends, and loved ones offered their guidance and encouragement when I needed it most. Surrounding myself with a community of like-minded individuals helped me stay focused on my goals.
Once I had a clear vision of where I wanted to go, I started taking actionable steps. For me, it wasn’t about leaping blindly into the unknown—it was about building a bridge. I began acquiring new skills, exploring opportunities, and leaning into small, purposeful actions that aligned with my vision. Each step, no matter how small, gave me the confidence to keep moving forward.
This journey has taught me the importance of patience and perseverance. Change doesn’t happen overnight. There have been challenges and setbacks along the way, but those moments have only strengthened my resolve.
Looking back, I know I made the right decision. Leaving my career after 20 years was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it was also the most rewarding. I’ve found a path that truly aligns with my purpose, and I wake up every day feeling more fulfilled than I ever thought possible.
To anyone considering a similar journey, I say this: trust your inner voice, embrace the fear, and start taking small, meaningful steps. The road ahead may be uncertain, but the reward of living authentically and on purpose is worth every challenge along the way.
