We were lucky to catch up with Cosha Joseph recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cosha, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Persistence and dedication….. Being a business owner is hard work. It will eat you alive if you are not focused on succeeding. Fear will creep up on you and sometimes cause you to second guess your why and your purpose. Lack of support can cause the same feelings.
When a person pushes through despite all the negative things and bumps in the road it shows how dedicated they are.
Sometimes it takes a strong person to do that….

Cosha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been in the mental health field for years.. I have always had a passion for helping others. Due to having a family history of mental health and being that go to person for my family. I stood in the calling to pursue my career further. Be the voice, show that it can be done and also encouraging people and letting them know that mental health and therapy is nothing to be shamed of. I am Licensed in 3 states, Certified Anger Management Specialist, Certified Clinical Trauma Profession and the owner of a behavioral health agency with 3 locations. It took discipline, me being coachable and me failing in some areas to be able to grow. My failures initially knocked me down but I did not stay there. My purpose was so much bigger than any thing negative trying to stand in my way. People have to realize that not everything will go right. I had a lot of learning lessons and support. It was my goal to grow my mental health agency and meet the needs of my community in other areas. I am a firm beliver that our mental health is so important and we have to treat it as such.
I am proud to say that since 2020 of opening our first office that we have grown to where we are now. I have grown as a business owner so therefore my business benefits from that.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn that being a business owner meant being about business. Initially hiring friends and family was a good go for me due to wanting to give opportunities. I sometimes can be an overly friendly person because that is just my personality. This is a gift and a curse and has cause some major mistakes in business.
I had to learn to separate the two and to be a boss and not a friend. This was needed in order for my business to flourish. My husband was a great help in letting me see what I could improve an be better. I wasn’t tough enough when also cause me to be misused.
I had to unlearn saying yes all of the time

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
