We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cosette Rinab. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cosette below.
Cosette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
Scaling a social media business can prove to be very challenging when you factor in communicating with brands, engaging with your community, and constantly pushing out new content. I started my digital journey by doing it all on my own while juggling multiple jobs and attending a rigorous performing arts high school in New York City. As I moved on to college, I continued my social media business all the while balancing seven jobs and a major in Public Relations and minor in Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. Between my shifts working as a theatrical technician and resident assistant to help pay for my tuition, I would film TikToks in my dorm room. While sitting in lecture, I would be hammering away on my keyboard responding to comments and brand emails. I eventually reached a point of realization that bringing on a team to help me with my day-to-day operations would just increase my business revenue. I hired on a team of wonderful agents at CAA and an assistant to capture content for me at events and help schedule out my posts. It has been immensely beneficial to be able to lift some of the weight off of my shoulders and focus more on what I love, which is creating fun and meaningful content for my audience.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cosette and I am a lifestyle creator with over 2 million followers. I got my start on TikTok in 2018 by creating comedy videos and had my first “viral” video within a week of downloading the app. Ever since, I have been fascinated by the ability to reach new global audiences on TikTok and discover new creators, unlike any other platform.
Over the years, I have transitioned my content into life hacks, product reviews, and DIY projects to make your life easier. I pride myself on creating family-friendly content that is attainable for anyone to watch and try out. Brands have taken notice of my unique style of content and have enlisted me for brand partnerships, such as going to fashion week with Dolce and Gabbana in Milan, creating a capsule collection with Levi’s, and even promoting TurboTax during tax season. Additionally, brands have utilized my skills for consulting services where I guide founders and social media leads on how to advertise their products and build a community on short-form platforms such as TikTok, Reels, Snapchat Spotlight, YouTube Shorts, and so much more.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I find my most effective strategy for growing my clientele to be listing myself on consulting sites like Clarity or MentorPass. Additionally, I get a lot of inbound clients through my posts on Twitter or LinkedIn. The start-up space is small, so once you’re in it’s easy to get connected from there. Also, never be afraid to ask clients for a testimonial or recommendation if you had a positive experience together!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Social media has really been transitioning more towards authenticity and just being real with your audience. Long gone are the days of perfectly posed Instagram models, people want to see the real you. I joined TikTok at a really pivotal moment for the Internet and didn’t try convincing my audience that I was anyone else but myself. What helps me cement this relationship with my audience is showing my mistakes when they happen. I fail a lot, and I want to be transparent with my audience that not everything is gonna be perfect. If I’m working on a DIY project, I won’t cut out the mistakes because I want to prove to everyone that it’s attainable for you to try as well. If I can do it, so can you!
