We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Corynn Welch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Corynn, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My love for hospitality and event planning began in college in my early 20’s. I completed my degree at Coastal Carlonia University with Communication Studies, and a minor in both Journalism and Public Relations. I interned for the Carolina Country Music Festival and immediately knew the events industry is where I belonged.
Shortly after college I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and was given the opportunity to put my skills to work as the Sales and Events manager for a local hospitality group.
In 2021, I hosted girl’s birthday trip to Nashville and had a real-life movie experience leaving the city with a Sales and Events job for a local tap house and venue downtown. I quickly packed my bags, and moved to Nashville in June 2021, Over the last year of being in Nashville, I have not only built my career but also my own identity in the industry.
About two months ago, I was given an amazing opportunity with Virgin Hotels. This position is a hybrid role that focuses on sales, events, and being the overall socialite for the company. I cannot express how grateful I am to join such an amazing family, and I am looking forward to this new chapter in my career.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
One thing I am most proud of is where I have landed today. I vividly remember sitting in my grandfather’s living room years ago laying out my dream job of working for a hotel in some type of capacity after college. The road to get here was a lot of hard work, but it shaped me into the person I am today. I know that in this moment, my grandfather is looking down with such joy and honor, and I keep that in the back of my head every day to keep pushing to do great things.
In my new role at The Virgin Hotels Nashville, I get to plan all of our incredible events in our social spaces such as “The Pool Club”, our 14th floor rooftop pool bar and “Commons Club”, our stylish bar and lounge. From company happy hours to bachelorette parties, and wedding rehearsal dinners, we truly have a space for everyone!
For all of my clients (past, present and future), my mission has and always been and will be to make you feel the love. I take pride on connecting with my clients and keep a lasting relationship with them. Over-seeing a great client event brings me such joy to my career, and I am always excited to get to be creative with each new one.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my goals in this role is to take a risk in the industry. I want to think outside the box and create such a wonderful environment for the Virgin Nashville that keeps people wanting to come back for more.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
When I first started in the industry years ago, social media did not have as strong as a presence as it does today. I am grateful for the times to be evolving. The power of networking via social media has truly changed the game in a such an industry like the hospitality industry.
