We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corwin Quinby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corwin below.
Hi Corwin, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
While having a guiding figure or resources to learn from is helpful, it isn’t necessary. To me, being a creative is about expression and growth. “The Scene” and Pop culture is always changing and evolving, so there will never exist a shortage of new things to try or learn . When it comes to expression of the self, any and everything is acceptable to an extent. Weather this is creating something to express emotion, explore a topic/character or just messing around, every project build your ability and confidence in your respective craft.
What I could have done to speed up my learning is be more resilient. Often when a creative begins their journey they will face many challenges in the form of Inspiration, quality , methodology, confidence in one’s ability, and the fear of judgement. Dedication, resilience, and pushing forward despite failure and ridicule will alleviate all of the above..

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Phantom Clawz, a recording artist and lyricist. All of my music is written and mixed by myself, still figuring out the producing thing. I first got into music at 14 when I joined a garage band as background vocalist. After not even a full year we broke up and I was left to pursue other creative outlets. This is until 2017 when I met some local independent artists, at first providing background screams for their “collective” until I was offered my own spot in the group and guidance on how to make solo music.. Due to different creative visions , and interpersonal issues members were being dropped left over time. Eventually my time to leave came I took this as a sign to “find a new hobby” and find myself. While I kept key characters around I went into a self induced isolation. I am a writer before I am a musician, so I took to writing short comics based off custom masks I made. After being comfortable designing and making certain styles of masks I was ready to come back to the world. I reunited with my now life partner, Elysian Empress, who reignited my passion for music. Now I’m to back living life, creating, pushing limits, and evolving into my best self..
Having been through so many different phases and around so many different creatives , alongside my wide pallet of media that I consume, my sound has changed many times, nowadays I allow myself to set no genre or creative limitations. I currently create music that blends elements of post hardcore, rap, horror core, pop punk, and rock
What I am most proud of is my ability to preserve in the face of disappointment, rejection, and failure

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
While I don’t have a specific goal in mind I do have desire to “make it” and not only be something, but mean something. What truly keeps me creating is feelings . Not only to get them out and cope, but also knowing that even one person could realize that they aren’t alone and aren’t the only one to think/ feel certain things… it’s comforting.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Reviewing / consuming my finished product , and hearing of others interpretations. It also is inspiring/ helpful to me to remind myself of times people who enjoy what I do, tell me.
