We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cornelius Washington. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cornelius below.
Cornelius, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Well I come from a musical family some of which are internationally famous so you can say I’ve always known that I’d be doing this it’s in my DNA. When I was 6 I learned that I’m a prodigy at Art. My mom always told me Art is my natural talent and I should capitalize on it. So when my senior year of highschool came around I decided that I want to make art for a living. So I went to Columbus college of art and design. I still have my love and talent for music so I decided that I would make a company for not just art but music too. Really Anything that has to do with the arts including modeling. That’s how Art Empire was born. I was 19. I first focused on my art for about 5 years then I started to add modeling and now since last year 2022 I have been doing gigs with my band and other musicians. I have a dream that Art Empire will promote artists, musicians, models, dancers really anything that has to do with the arts. And I’ve been working towards that dream. So stay tuned cause I’m just getting started.
Cornelius, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Art Empire when I was in college. I am a fine arts canvas painter, a graphic designer/ logos, and custom shoes. Recently I also started a band made of a group of collectives called “Divine Timing Music” where I am the drummer and leader. Business has been good lately I have my art up in a art gallery, and I have been booked for gig performance with my group and by my self at Skullys music diner, Sofar Columbus, Wasted & Sedated and so on. I’m most proud of the hired performance I had with, The Columbus Cultural Orchestra, for a night of 90s R&B meets Symphony.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best way to support artists Is to invest in them and share their work with people that can afford it. You can also show up to they’re performances or shows.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in life is to make a Empire for artists by artists of all kinds. We will support and invest in those who are into the Arts. Rather that be painting, music, visual arts. We will be a play form for those in the Arts.
