We were lucky to catch up with Corinne Kushel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Corinne , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I was a very late bloomer. I did have. background in the fashion industry as my parents were very involved in it back in New York. As a young adult I did some showroom modeling and found out I was also a great makeup artist !! So I did that for awhile. I was in my late 20’s. BUT THEN I ended up having children then breast cancer both pretty much ended my makeup career due to medical issues. This is when I began the photo groups. But I was already in my late 40’s. If I knew then what I knew now I could have been the next Barbizon !!!!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Arizona Photo Events is a collaborative effort of many artists throughout the country actually. We provide on location actual modeling photo shoots , sometimes , themed , sometimes not. We offer artists to build portfolios of update existing ones with our group photo events. No one needs experience modeling or with photography they just need the interest to do it. Many years of experience is in this group. 14 to be exact. A safe place for young new models. A great place to network , A great place for fantastic images
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Whew this is a tough one , it’s a tough market. I worked very hard as far as networking and putting so much energy and effort into my photo groups over the many years. I have had to go head to head with many personalities and also protect what’s mine. Some of the issues I had with others while trying to move myself higher on the ranks were unnecessary and some of the people I gave dealt with have been very unprofessional but I keep my head up and offer the best product.around for what I do. My being organized and good with people helped me grow. It’s not a job it’s an adventure
Have you ever had to pivot?
Well one time I was asked to do makeup for the guitarist or someone from the Smashing Pumpkins and I had to turn it down due to no childcare. I had to pivot a lot due to Illness and being a single parent
