We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corina Bair. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corina below.
Corina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
It has been the highest honor of my career to be the person that many of my LGBTQ+ clients have first come out to. Providing a safe space for folks to explore their identity and how they present to the world is incredibly important to me – but even more heart warming than that is when I see my clients fully embracing who they are and having the confidence to share that person, their authentic selves, with the world. Being accepted and loved for you who are by others in your life makes such a huge difference and empowering clients in this way is one of the biggest reason I love my job!
Corina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m your stereotypical bisexual homebody. You never know what color hair I’ll show up to our session with. I’m an introvert, despise confrontation, drink matcha every day, and spend way too much time escaping reality via romance novels. Stardew Valley is a weekly activity, and did I mention I read a lot? :)
I love working with other folks who are part of the queer community. I’ve worked extensively with teens and young to middle-aged adults, primarily women and nonbinary folks. I use a collaborative, inclusive approach where I help you set and achieve goals to grow and become a better version of yourself.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Empathy is huge I would say, as well as being authentic. I think I connect well with my clients because they recognize that I’m genuine and authentic with them, and I always bring an open mind to our conversations.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Focusing on my own community, the LGBTQ+ community, has made a huge impact. I’m known as a trusted therapist within my local community due to word of mouth from my clients who are also in the community. Working with folks whose core values align with mine, as well as those who face challenges that I’ve also faced, lends a sense of deeper understanding to the therapy session and that has really helped me build my reputation as a safe therapist that my clients trust and are happy to also refer their friends and family to.
