We were lucky to catch up with Corey Wilder recently and have shared our conversation below.
Corey, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Hi! So in order to understand how I knew I found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life you have to understand me as a person. I’ve always been an imaginative kid. Making up stories and character’s in my head, playing those character’s, and even imagining myself in the world. I was always a story teller and a performer at heart.
But I was also the sports kid. I did Track, Football, Basketball, did soccer for a littler bit, karate for a little bit, etc etc. So I settled that sports would be my life. I didn’t like it much but that was the outcome that my brain had settled on since I didn’t really feel happy doing anything else other than playing video games and watching movies.
So fast forward to 6th grade and I forget to fill out an elective on my class sheet. Since I forgot the school had to pick one for me and I ended up in a theatre class. I didn’t know what theatre was and I honestly thought it was gonna be like a film class since it had the word theatre. But then we started performing, acting, miming, and making scenes together. That was when it clicked in my brain that “Hey you’ve been doing this all your life on the playground, in your head, and even in your room. You were acting before you even knew what acting was and you LOVE it.”
Sadly I didn’t actually start pursuing that drive until I got to 10th grade, but honestly better late than never!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi all! My name is Corey Wilder and I am an actor. Now I’m sure most of you know what actors are but just in case I’ll lay down the deets for ya haha. As an actor our main job is to be storytellers and help bring other creative stories to life through our performances. We try to bring authenticity and love to everything we do so that people can feel that passion through our words and actions. Sometimes clients aren’t able to express what they want and our job as actors is to interpret the text and bring it to life for others and for the creator.
What I think sets me a part from a lot of people is that some of our group mainly do acting for the fame or clout that can sometimes come with the job, I on the other hand don’t really crave or desire that clout. What I desire I’d to continue telling stories and having those stories reach the hearts of people all around the world. If I can give someone that escapism to where they don’t have to worry about everyday life, then that’s a win for me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect to me is being able to reach those people that need help. I remember doing a podcast called Camp Here and There and so many people were messaging me telling me how much Rowan meant to them. For me that’s the job, I want to make people feel seen and cared about and loved. If my characters are able to do that then I win :D

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
MAN! I wish I knew about agent nights sooner! I have to thank my friend William Ofoegbu for putting me on to those. It’s just so nice being able to hear what an agent is looking for when they are searching for new talent. Without him I probably wouldn’t have ended up with the agency I’m with now so I owe him so much <3
