We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corey Reid. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corey below.
Hi Corey, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Starting this business was not a goal of mine. It was more of a need came up, so i helped with a solution. I am a Senior Software engineer at a large financial institution. I also coach track at the local high schools after work. A few years ago at track, we were doing our fundraiser. I asked the head coach how much the fundraising company took from the proceeds, and it was 20%! Our programs was already struggling to raise enough money in this economy, and we had to give 20% to the fundraising company itself. This got me frustrated enough that i went home, contacted some other software friends of mine, and we got to working on wiping up a fundraiser management company that would just charge straight cost to its customers. I don’t believe there should be profit off of fundraising. We have been able to use this footing to branch out a little and help others in need in our community as well.

Corey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Senior Software engineer at a large financial institution. I also coach track at the local high schools after work. I was appalled by the percentage of funds kept by fundraiser companies used by our local schools. This caused me to make my own fundraiser management company where i just charge the customer straight cost. I don’t believe there should be profit made off of fundraising. People donate to help out the kids/schools, not to put money in someone’s pocket.
We provide fundraiser management services for mainly school athletics, but also others who need it(such as a senior scholarship fund for Damonte High School). Basically we offer an online website where anyone can donate to your cause. We track the money coming in by program and by athlete, so athletes can log on and see who has donated to them, and see how close they are to their goal. Likewise coaches can log on and see all athletes completion % and the overall team’s money raised.
Programs who use our system will be charged the credit card fee, plus 3% website hosting fee(this is how much it costs us to have the website running/Licensing fees). We also lower the website fee every new program we add on to keep our overall profits at $0 or below.
We also have a other sites as well we have made up to help the community members, such as an EKG analyzing website that takes a photo of an EKG and returns the results. It has been verified by several doctors for correctness, and used for training and educational purposes.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to use my skills to help our community. I am glad that i have found a way to give back since this community has help shape me into who i am today.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to better our community, and to help our local schools grow. Money is tight for everyone these days, so being able to help our schools save where they can to help improve the experience for the kids really helps me push forward.
