We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corey Reeves. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corey below.
Corey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on had unexpected origins. Recently, one of the first photos I ever took was selected to be the label for a limited edition whiskey. This was so special because the photo that was selected was one I took of the famous Swans that are the symbol of my hometown. Not only that, this photo was one that I took when I had just gotten my first camera, and was beginning my pursuit of a serious career in photography/videography.
Corey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For as long as I can remember, I have loved storytelling using the visual arts of photography and videography. I love the idea of being able to connect with so many people on a deep level through telling stories that they can relate to, and find themselves in. Cinematography brings people together through sharing the things that are the most authentic and meaningful to them. To be able to capture those memories as a moment in time that can be relived over and over is something so special, and I can’t think of anything that fulfills me more.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
A resource that I wish I knew about earlier on is the abundance of resources available for free through YouTube or those that have paved the way in the particular craft that you are in. There are so many professionals that have “been there, done that”, and are willing to share their knowledge for next to nothing, if not for free-they just have to be asked.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing the impact that your work has on other people. As a creative you always have an idea of what you are hoping to create, and how you are hoping that your work inspires people. But there is nothing like the feeling of being pleasantly surprised when your work not only evokes the emotion or reaction that you were hoping for, but also goes above and beyond and influences them in even more ways than you had hoped.
