We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Corey Lynch a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Corey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I am still very new to being a business owner and it didn’t come about with a huge leap of faith like I expected it. I left my job back in April, thinking I would only be taking a few months to work on, what at the time, was a side hustle. I was interviewing for jobs throughout, but nothing seemed to be sticking. I had some great interview processes where I got all the way to the final stages and thoughts I would be getting an offer. After months of frustration, I decided it was a sign for me to get serious and try to give my all to my business. On top of the frustration, I was also beginning to realize how much I didn’t want to go back to that life. Diving fully in to my business was to prove those companies wrong in a sense and also start believing in myself. The past 6 months have been incredibly rewarding to say the least. I’ve been able to travel to some locations I thought would take me years to check off, I’ve seen exponential improvement in my work, and have felt more alive than ever before in my life. I finally feel like I am living a life that is true to me and no one else and that feeling is absolutely incredible. While it all hasn’t been smooth sailing, in fact most of it hasn’t, I’ve learned so much about myself, have been working harder than I have ever before, and truly believe that I will make it work.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a professional travel and brand photographer and videographer based in the Denver, Colorado area. After an abroad experience several years back when I picked up and taught myself how to use a camera properly, I haven’t looked back. I’ve constantly been enamored with the idea of traveling to new places and capturing beauty through my lens. My goal is to spark excitement about being outdoors, putting yourself in new situations, and living an authentic life. I hope to bring exciting imagery to my clients products and services as I travel to the most scenic locations I can get myself to. I am proud of the years of time and energy I have put into honing my craft and want to form meaningful connections with people out there who are like-minded and appreciate the grind it takes in making your dreams a reality.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Recently, I was able to gain over 7K followers on instagram which I had forever felt like was an impossible goal. I had been stagnant for years, but I came across another creator who started a challenge to post 1 reel and 1 carousel post every day for 30 days. I decided to give it a go and it helped me in more ways than just gaining followers. It helped me think creatively about how I could use content from past trips and turn it into new, exciting content. It forced me to approach new trips differently. Instead of just capturing the main attraction, I was trying to tell a story of the day by piecing several photos or videos together. Eventually, I was lucky enough to have a reel go viral. And I know a lot of people get upset with idea of a creator gaining a following by one piece going viral, but to me its about consistency and continuing to put content out. The more you put out the higher chance something is going to take off.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is being able to do something I love and especially in a space where so many people view it as a hobby or an unrealistic career. I love that I am working harder than I ever have because I know this is what I am supposed to be doing.
