We recently connected with Corey Floca and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Corey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always loved music and I actually started off dancing first when I was maybe 7 years old. I have two older brothers that been doing music, singing, writing and producing beats. My whole family loves music, from my mom dancing, my aunt singing and both of my brothers doing everything literally, I felt like it was a matter of time until I started. I started Watching michael jackson, usher, omarion, and of course chris brown. I started imitating them so much that when I started taking dancing serious I would combine their moves with my style of dance, everything started taking off for me in the dance world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Corey Lewis, most know me from my stage name “Corey Floca. I’m from Philadelphia PA. and i was born in olney and soon moved to germantown section, wayne and sylvania street to be exact. That’s where real life for me started happening and I met alot of people you might still see me with today. I used to get in lots of trouble in school once I moved and started getting locked up multiple times and getting into fights until I joined a group called “Team Nike” where i met alot of people going back and forth throwing parties and etc. I Literally went through any possible thing you can imagine. Later down the line, I ended up getting shot in my stomach area and then the tables turned around for me. When I recovered later down the line, I recreated myself into an artist and started doing music. Me and my brothers always did everything ourselves so me seeing them do everything I already had it in my mind to get my own studio equipment because I Didn’t like being in studios with alot of people and I liked to zone out myself to try and find my sound. I ended up getting kicked out my mom house and then the next 2 weeks i dropped a song that took my career to another level called “Jump In The O”. After that everything I did started going crazy and I kept it going.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me…. the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creator is that I can change at least 1 person mindset and motivate. Just making someone smile and happy is enough for me. The energy you put out is exactly what you will get back.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had tiktok and certain streaming platforms earlier on in my journey because when everyone in my city stopped dancing I felt like I was the only one left in the world still dancing to club music but on tiktok everything is accepted. Any type of career you want to take serious, I would suggest tiktok as one of your promoting strategies.
