Corey Comer Leaves Law Enforcement to Follow His Musical Calling
Debut Ticketed Concert Set for November 8, 2025 at the Historic Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines, NC
Southern Pines, NC —
In a bold and inspiring career move, Corey Comer left behind his role in law enforcement in 2024 to pursue his true passion—music. Now an emerging singer, songwriter, and musician, Comer is finding success on stages from New York to Nashville.
A former probation officer in Moore County, Comer’s career began with a dream to serve and protect his community. He returned to college later in life to earn a degree in social work and fulfill that mission. Yet, even after achieving his law enforcement goals, he felt an unshakable pull toward music.
“I have a calling on my life,” Comer said. “And when the time comes, the choice will have already been made.”
That choice is paying off. Since stepping into music full-time, Comer has earned a growing following and now announces his first ticketed concert, happening Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the beloved Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Located in the heart of Moore County, the Sunrise Theater is a cherished historic venue with seating for up to 400 guests. The concert promises a vibrant and soulful evening, showcasing Comer’s signature blend of rock, country, Motown, funk, and blues.

A powerhouse of passion, purpose, and pure musical talent, Corey isn’t just another entertainer—he’s a storyteller, a healer, and a man deeply called to connect with people on a soul level.
From an early age, Corey felt a tug toward people—a calling rooted in compassion, empathy, and an undeniable love for music. And yes, sometimes a well-deserved snack is a must.” But that self-awareness is part of what makes Corey so relatable and down-to-earth.
As a performer and songwriter, Corey offers more than music—he offers connection, comfort, and clarity. Whether it’s a live show, a studio track, or a heartfelt lyric, his work is designed to strengthen people from the inside out.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
“The Slow Burn to the Top”: Corey Comer Reflects on the Most Rewarding Part of Being an Artist
For singer-songwriter Corey Comer, the most fulfilling part of being an artist isn’t the bright lights, the packed venues, or the roar of the crowd—it’s connection. Not just any connection, but the deeply personal moment when an audience begins to see beyond the covers and into the soul of his original music.
“I remember the first time people started requesting my original songs at shows,” Comer shares. “Usually, when you’re performing at venues around the country, folks want to hear covers. But now, I’ve noticed a shift—people are listening closely to my lyrics, playing my songs in rotation, and really feeling the message.”
This moment marks a turning point for any musician: the transition from cover artist to original creator. For Comer, it’s a pivotal, hard-earned shift that brings both excitement and responsibility.
“As thrilling as it is, you have to be careful not to rush that momentum,” he explains. “It’s wise to introduce your original music gradually. I call it the ‘slow burn’ approach. That way, people have the space to connect with your sound, form their own opinions, and truly understand your message.”
It’s a philosophy that’s served him well. By nurturing this slow, intentional connection with his audience, Comer has been able to showcase not just his voice, but his heart.
“When people can see your heart, they know you’re real. And once the message becomes clear, it resonates.”
As any true artist will tell you, self-doubt often lingers in the background. Comer humbly admits, “We’re always our own toughest critics. Artists are usually the last to know that we’re great.”
Yet the evidence speaks for itself: relatable lyrics, danceable rhythms, and a growing fanbase that sings his songs back to him. In Corey Comer’s journey, it’s clear that the most rewarding part of artistry is not fame—it’s authenticity.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Opinion: How We Can Truly Support Creative Artists in Today’s Economy
In today’s fast-paced, hyper-digital economy, supporting creative artists goes far beyond liking a post or streaming a song. If we’re being honest — and we should be — real support means telling artists the truth, even when it’s hard to hear. Sugar-coating their potential or selling them illusions about fame and fortune does more harm than good.
Many young artists enter the industry with high hopes, often encouraged by well-meaning family and friends who dream of red carpets and platinum records. But the reality of the music business is often cold and unforgiving. Once signed to a major label, even the most talented individuals are often funneled into rigid artist development programs that control their mobility and charge them for services they may not need — or can’t afford.
This is why I believe in brutal honesty, both with myself and with those who ask for my guidance. We do a disservice to upcoming talent when we spare them the truth. The industry is riddled with producers and gatekeepers who prey on naivety, especially in big cities, selling dreams they have no intention of delivering. I’ve seen too many young artists strung along, emotionally and financially drained by the time they realize the game being played.
Televised singing competitions are a prime example — they sell the dream of overnight fame, but the shows are built for ratings, not for sustainable careers. Most contestants are not prepared for the reality of the industry, and the exposure often doesn’t translate into long-term success. That’s why truthful mentorship is one of the most valuable forms of support we can offer. When artists understand what they’re really stepping into, they’re more likely to grow, develop their skills, and eventually succeed on their own terms.
Beyond honesty, the most tangible way to support artists is financially — and directly. In the streaming era, where convenience is king, artists receive fractions of a cent per download or play. What many don’t realize is that artists now rely heavily on funding their own concerts, selling merchandise, performing at private and corporate events, and creating viral content that leads to synch licensing or commercial deals.
To truly help artists thrive, we must buy their music directly, support them at live shows, share their work with genuine intention, and promote fair distribution deals. In a world where artists are expected to be their own marketers, managers, and financiers, every bit of authentic support counts.
Creativity can survive — even thrive — in this economy. But only if we commit to being honest, informed, and intentional about how we uplift those who bring art into our lives.
