We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Corbyn Young. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Corbyn below.
Corbyn, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name Freckled & Framed Photography comes from something very personal to me—my freckles! As a child with a freckled face and red hair, I often felt a little out of place. But as I grew older, I learned to embrace my differences more positively. Now, I see my freckles as little pieces of art that add character to who I am. They’re part of my unique charm, and I want to translate that same appreciation into my photography. My goal is to capture not just how my clients look, but the true essence of who they are—their personality, feelings, and the things that make them unique. I want each person to feel seen, celebrated, and confident in themselves.

Corbyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Corbyn Young and I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I live with my husband and our spunky orange cat, Oliver. In my free time I enjoy reading, playing games, building Legos, drinking an iced chai tea, and spending time outdoors. I graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2020 with an English degree and a minor in Film & Media Studies.
I first fell in love with photography back in high school, during my time in IB Art and Yearbook. Capturing school events and working on creative projects in art class was so much fun, and it sparked something in me. In college, I dove deeper into both digital and darkroom photography, which challenged me in ways I never expected. It was through these courses, along with an internship in the college’s marketing office, that I really began to imagine photography as a full-time career.
To build my portfolio, I started by photographing friends and family, and in 2022, I joined the school and family photography team at Slow Road Photo. That was a turning point. It’s here that I honed my skills, gained confidence, and found a community of inspiring, like-minded creatives. This incredible group has been a constant source of support, advice, and inspiration. Their belief in collaboration and shared growth reminds me daily that “a rising tide lifts all boats.”
After experimenting with various genres, I found my passion moving toward family and wedding photography. What I love about both is the balance of artistry and emotion. The ability to be creative while capturing the raw, beautiful connections between people. Family and wedding photography, to me, is timeless. It’s all about preserving those fleeting moments of love, joy, and connection.
In addition to family and wedding photography, I also enjoy capturing senior portraits, events, concerts, and branding photos. I love mixing things up and stepping outside of my main focus because it keeps my creative spark alive and adds variety to my work.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a family and wedding photographer is the opportunity to capture and preserve moments filled with love, joy, and connection. Moments that my clients can cherish for years to come. Through the images I create, I’m able to bring a little more joy and love into their lives, and that’s what makes this work so meaningful and rewarding to me. There’s nothing more fulfilling than receiving a message from a client, full of joy, after they’ve seen their photos for the first time. Knowing that I’ve created something that holds such emotional value, something they’ll look back on with love and nostalgia for years to come, is what keeps me so passionate about my work.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been referrals from past clients, as well as from my friends and family. I truly believe in providing the best possible service to every client, and after each session, I always make sure to send a personalized thank you! I want them to know how much they mean to me and how grateful I am.
I believe that when clients have an experience where they feel comfortable, seen, and where their true selves are reflected in the final images, they naturally want to share that experience with others. The support from my friends and family has been invaluable. They’ve always been quick to pass along my name, and I’m so thankful for their help.
Another key moment in growing my client base came after joining the Slow Road Photo family photography collective. Being part of their community allowed me to connect with so many new families and expand my reach in ways I never expected. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every connection along the way.
