We were lucky to catch up with Constanza Gorches recently and have shared our conversation below.
Constanza, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Pickleball has been the fastest-growing sport in America for the last three years and I believe it is great. It allows people who play the sport to connect with others with the same interest. Also, research has shown that playing racket sports benefits our mental health and can increase our lifespan. The popularity of the sport allows us to attract more people, however, it also creates competition in the industry with a lot of people trying to take advantage of this growth. The key for us is to be authentic regarding what we offer and how we connect with our clients.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am originally from Mexico where I started playing tennis at the age of 7. I have played for almost 20 years as a pro, as a D1 tennis player, as well as recreationally. I decided to join Toss and Spin after graduating from college because of my interest and passion for racket sports. After graduating with an MBA, combining business and racket sports sounded like a great idea. Our mission as Toss and Spin is connecting the world through racket sports that has lasting impact beyond the court. We offer immersive brand activations, corporate wellness, facility+program management, pop-up events, glow in the dark racket tennis and pickleball, private pickleball events, as well as trap tennis. We bring the fun to people by transforming any location into an immersive experience with our one-of-a-kind, flexible footprint.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Create a culture where the whole team feels comfortable by giving them tools to ask for feedback and be successful in their role. It is important to help your team develop both personally and professionally. Showing them how much you appreciate them with their unique personalities and abilities. Also, have fun in the process.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I don´t live with my parents since I was 13 years old. From a young age, I wanted to follow my passion for tennis. I went to a tennis academy where I used to practice for 6 hours a day. Then I moved to the U.S. to play D1 college tennis with the opportunity of a full scholarship. This brought a lot of challenges especially because I was far away from home and my family, however, I wanted to develop and keep doing what I loved. And I can tell that hard work pays off. Working for Toss and Spin gives me the opportunity and satisfaction of doing something that I enjoy, offering a service that I am passionate about.
