We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Connor Borrego. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Connor below.
Hi Connor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
As the software industry reaches saturation, major players are branching out horizontally, directly competing and driving software costs towards zero. This trend aims to provide comprehensive solutions for both business and individual online operations. Simultaneously, increasing demands for information privacy, free speech, and source accountability are emerging. Web3, with its standardized databases and data object definitions, is set to capitalize on these shifts. It’s poised to disrupt big tech’s dominance in a similar fashion to how tech disrupted traditional industries, potentially enhancing the margins and operational efficiency of small businesses. This shift could mark a significant turning point, where Web3 not only challenges but potentially usurps big tech’s market position, benefiting smaller enterprises in the process.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Connor’s career began as an early team member of the Ann Arbor based advertising technology company, AdAdapted, to leverage their patented solution for growing demand for grocery retailers, and consumer packaged goods brands. He was a top performing sales team member before being plucked by the CEO to work on special analytics and product development based projects. Connor moved on to Google to assume a role as a technical consultant for high valued technology startups looking to invest their funds in growing their business through Google’s advertising platform; he was a top performing consultant and the resident expert in leveraging AI & Machine Learning strategies for automated growth.
Splitting time between Ann Arbor, MI and Kansas City, MO, Connor sees himself as a Midwest based technology entrepreneur fighting to use web3 technologies to give better options to small businesses and aspiring content creators to remain competitive with large technology companies cannibalizing their industries and margins.

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
We’ve had 4 or 5 of them at this point. Fortunately I’m the only full time person dependent on the earnings & my contracting partners have been flexible to letting me pay a little later than normal. The worst one was last August where we were nearly 2 months with less than $50 in the account and software systems being shut down; it happened after we lost our largest client, two months in advance of our new largest client starting. Also fortunate my wife keeps me fed & free from being homeless.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Warm intro’s from people I’ve helped in the past have been the key to all the client success I have today. Building reputation is about providing well networked people a high quality service and that’s the reputation I’ve built with those opportunities
