We were lucky to catch up with Connor Bahng recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Connor thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think to become successful is to first and foremost give thanks to God or the universe. Weather you’re religious or not, having gratitude and being able to wake up everyday is a blessing.
This mindset translates to the actions that you carry on forth throughout you’re day. Developing a mindset that is strong and can persevere through hardships or obstacles on a day to day basis is important.
There are many things to do to become successful. But success is subjective to each individual. For my grandpa who survived the korean war as a soldier and lost his opportunity to continue his education. His definition of success changed due to the world conflict. Instead it can be argued that his success was having his family move to the United States and I had the opportunity to be born here.
But I think as I get older, its important to pursue something that you want to do. Have a goal, a vision, and a plan to execute.
Wether it succeeds or fails, if you give your heart into it and actually try I think it is worthwhile.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Director and entrepreneur.
My childhood friend and I founded Paradyme Studio next to Cal State LA. We operate a photo studio that is available to rent for photo/video productions.
I also co-founded a creative production company focusing on commercials, music videos, and narrative projects this year with my friend who is a producer.
I am aspiring to become a director in sports commercials and would like to do ads for Nike Basketball and the World Cup.
I think what separates me is that I grew up as an artist / athlete therefore I have the sensibilities of an Artist with the mental/physical fortitude of an athlete.
I have a lot of energy and feel that I am very good at connecting people. I believe this to be my greatest strength.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to express yourself and put out your creative work for others to see. It doesn’t have to be extraordinary, but having the courage to put yourself out there is something that gets easier to do and worthwhile.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
As a small business there is no right or wrong way to fund your business. I think if you can get help through a business loan that would be awesome, but if you cannot get that finding people in your immediate network like family can be a great way to find funds or help.
As our business model has pivoted we have found through our network that people were willing to work with us and provide equipment, skills, and labor. I think for us, it has been easier to fund our business since its not just an individual but several people so i would say to use what you have and find a way to get what you need for your business to operate.
