Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Connie Little. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Connie, thanks for joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
The plus side of owning your own business is being able to show customer appreciate however you see fit! I TRULY enjoy being able to do social media giveaways and giving away macarons to special customers as a special thank you as I see fit. It really goes a long way in fostering the customer to owner relationship.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Baking macarons actually started as a pandemic hobby for me! I was looking for something new and challenging to keep me busy, and had a good friend of mine that was a macaron baker. Through her guidance I was able to get started and turned out to really enjoy baking these finicky little treats – I was hooked from there! While my first few years were spent just baking for friends and family, through their encouragement I decided to launch Little Macs as a side business (I’m a full time mom and engineer, so taking on a side hustle was daunting!). It’s been incredibly successful while still giving me a creative outlet I truly enjoy!
Starting this business has definitely given me a creative outlet to experiment with different flavor combinations, colors and designs to help bring a customer’s vision to life. While there’s other macaron bakers in my area, there’s no one else that offer specialty shapes or the flavor combinations that I’ve put together – something I truly pride myself on.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Providing a quality, tasty product at a reasonable price goes a long way in my market area. Lucky for me, Huntsville is an incredibly supportive city to small businesses – shopping local and supporting small. Plus, establishing a strong repertoire with other bakers and small business owners has taken me a long way! It helps to have recommendations from other established vendors that will vouch for your product.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Social media and a functional website goes a LONG way in the digital world and having a strong online presence – it helps keep me connected to my customers and provide quick, efficient responses when they reach out with order questions or inquiries. Simple things like sharing or liking their post when they share your work really go a long way with fostering a relationship with your customer, which helps bring them back to you when they need treats for special events!
