Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Connie Gillock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Connie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My recent work – a series I call Transitions – is an emphatic treatise to love, family and the continuity of life, bound in a fundamental conception of dignity.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a portrait painter based in Evanston, Illinois. My work is all about capturing the essence and emotions of a person, whether it’s through their facial expressions, body language, or the subtle details of their features. I have genuine love of people and their stories, which is why I’m drawn to portraitures. Through my paintings, I hope to showcase the beauty and complexity of humanity.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As a way to gain an audience, I curated an art exhibition in my home. I invited local artists and we hosted a group exhibition. This became a year long project and eventually I rented a public space – The Gillock Gallery.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to exhibit my portraits in other regions of the nation. I wrote a letter to a New York based artist and requested a visit to his studio space. In my note, I inquired about the possibility of showing my art works in his studio, and to my surprise, he agreed. My portraits will be on display at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts during the month of June.
