We recently connected with Congrez and have shared our conversation below.
Congrez, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft takes an extensive amount of time, effort and energy along with studying the industry and art itself. Seeing things from another person’s perspective can spark inspiration or simply show you all different kinds of ways to attack things. And then obviously there’s putting in the work. Your best friend is repetition. Attention to detail will be what separates you from everyone else.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Im Congrez (Congress), a singer /Rapper/ Songwriter from Cleveland, OH. I also head a Record Label “Avalanche Records” which is also based in Cleveland Ohio . We have top notch artist, producers, photographers and more under our umbrella. My love for music started when I was 8 years old. I was good at mimicking things at a young age. I took a liking to Usher’s “Nice and slow”, mimicked what I heard him do, and that was the moment I knew music was for me. I would sing taking the garbage out, or while I was washing dishes late at night when everyone was asleep. No one found out about my voice until I was about 16 years old. I went on to sign a local deal with a “Executive Hits”, and from there , I was thrusted into the music industry making 3 BET 106&Park appearances, shows all across the nation, local TV News stations, live radio and so much more. Eventually I would end up leaving Executive Hits, and hiring Super Star Manager Sean Oatz to take my talent and career to a new height. Since then, I’ve opened and Co-Headlined shows with artist like Tank, Gucci Mane, YFN Lucci, Kash Doll, Zapp, Slash The guitarist and more. From there, I then went on to start Avalanche Records, and ultimately signing dual threat artist “Tilla Duula”, “BamFranx” and DJ/R&B singer “Arkansa Lay” to kick things off, while adding talented staffers and A&Rs such as Richard “Rich” Lugo Jr, Juwaun “Jiggy Ju” Lett, Donte Washington, and more. And to complete our team, we added young promising producer GiovaniDC, and Reysecurethebag. Since then, we’ve released several team Projects like “Cold Summer” and “Cold Summer Deluxe” to name a few, solo albums like Congrez’s “Ultra” album, Tilla Duula’s “The Boy with the Golden Mental”, And BamFranx’s “Franx Life Series. Other forms of content includes music videos, interviews and quite a few shows as well. My inspiration for this came from growing up watching star studded labels like Def jam, Roc-A-Fella Records, Cash money, Young Money, QC The Label and more. Seeing the way they developed talent pushed me into that direction to do the same. I’m most proud of taking the initiative to jump off the porch, and take more control of my career. I’ve been blessed to have know some of the greatest minds in music, and without a lot of these people, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Stepping into this new role, becoming a leader, winning the respect of my team, and accomplishing what we’ve been able to do with the past few years is what proud of. What I’ve always wanted people to know about me is I’m as transparent as they come. Most importantly, giving is my nature. If I’m up on money, knowledge, or anything I think can be of use to anyone, I would gladly pass it along. Seeing my people win will always be my end goal.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is just that. Possessing the ability to create and express yourself through art. Sometimes talking verbally can be difficult and just having that outlet to create and put that energy in art form does the mind, body and soul wonders.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think a lot of people shit on others who are brave enough to love something enough, to chase or go after it. Why? Maybe because they didn’t have the courage to do the same, so they project their fear, doubts and insecurities on creatives instead of uplifting them and supporting them. You’re never too old to chase something you love, I’ve never been able to make sense of that. A along as there’s love there and passion there, go for it.
