We recently connected with Colvin Prince and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Colvin , thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea?
Like most creatives and entrepreneurs, what started as a simple interest of mine soon expanded and turned into what now is Kingdom Creations Studios. The idea of starting a business or being an entrepreneur wasn’t something I initially felt I was qualified to be or do. As much as I tried to rebel and reject what God was calling me to be, I could no longer ignore the call to build a business that would allow me to serve others through creative marketing and graphic design services.
With the help of mentors and highly-skilled designers like Kym Jenkins, Kay Gresham, and Justin Foster, I built a plan of action and set up the necessary systems to move beyond the idea phase and launch. May 4, 2020, was the day that I took the idea of Kingdom Creations Studios and brought it to life. Since launching, I have learned the importance of showing up daily for myself and my business to steward what I am called to build. One thing that hindered me the most from walking into this entrepreneurship journey was taking the first step to start. Taking that leap into entrepreneurship broadened my view of everything my business could and would be in the future. Since launching Kingdom Creations Studios, I have worked with some fantastic people and organizations, including Candy West, Anthony Richardson, Florida A&M University, Troy University, Alabama State University, and countless other professionals and entrepreneurs.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Hello, my name is Colvin Prince, Jr. I am a graphic designer and creative strategist. My introduction to graphic design began with designing for friends, family, and churches without formal training. Thanks to those who noticed my potential in graphic design, a gift was birthed right before my eyes. My first step into building my graphic design was to invest in design courses hosted by highly-skilled designers like Kym Jenkins and Justin Foster. Throughout these courses, I gained more knowledge on typography, design hierarchy, color theory, design concepts, and how to manage a graphic design business successfully.
Our focus here at Kingdom Creations Studios is to effectively manifest your vision through graphic design and creative marketing. As a graphic designer, I recognized a similar pain point for most of my clients: struggling to articulate clearly an idea or concept in their mind that they desire to bring to life through our design services. Through creating a top-tier experience for clients, I am incredibly proud of my success in executing ideas and concepts to provide solutions for my clients. Being able to receive reviews like, “If you are seeking quality work, professional service, hands-on communication, and excellent customer service, Kingdom Creations Studios is where you need to be” is the experience we create for each of our clients.
Overall, I believe that part of my purpose is to build Kingdom Creations Studios into a creative hub that will focus on building community, advancing creativity, and fostering connections.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Overall, my professionalism, integrity, and reliability have built a positive reputation for myself and my business within the graphic design market. Understanding the importance of maintaining our core values and building client loyalty has helped to promote and develop an awareness of Kingdom Creations Studios. In doing this, I have successfully created a consistent experience for my clients. One thing that I have realized is that there is value in creative collaborations. I started to build business connections with experts in my industry at higher levels in business that I plan to reach one day. This resulted in significant opportunities and projects being presented to me simply because I am continuously operating from the posture of a student and servant leader. Building connections with other creatives and business owners allowed me to learn a lot of new information about running a business, marketing my business, and establishing a positive reputation in the graphic design market.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Being a graphic designer, comparison hindered me the most along this entrepreneurship journey. An important lesson that I learned was that comparison KILLS creativity. Dealing with the fear of failure made it very difficult to remain confident in my role as a business owner. Once I understood who I was as an entrepreneur and my uniqueness as a designer, I released the fear of failure. Doing this made it easier to understand the importance of showing up daily for myself and stewarding what I am called to carry.
