Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Colton Hulgan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Colton, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Coming up with Cloutshot has been a journey. I had plenty of other names before this one, for example I used to be “ItsGaingo” or “HulgansHUB” Just to name a few of them. But this time I actually came up with a good one that meant something a little more. I used to and still watch Matthew “NadeShot” Hagg on Youtube and Twitch. He has a incredible story and I loved his content. Thats where the name orginated from and have no plan to rebrand anytime soon, Cloutshot to stay!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I got into the gaming industry at such a young age. I started off playing with my older brother Michael, we played games like Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. We would level our Pokémon up and try to battle it out to see who was stronger. Then we started playing Xbox together, and let me tell you, THAT’S WHERE I GOT HOOKED! The game that I remember clear as day was Halo.

Since we have a 8 year age gap, Michael kinda fell out of gaming and I only got deeper into it. At this time I played throughout elementary, middle school, and right around high school is when I began making content on YouTube then shortly after high school, we started streaming live to Mixer and Twitch!

As a streaming/Content creator there are a lot of things that can go south on you. Anywhere from equipment not working, videos not being processed correctly, and ALOT of other things. It’s easier as a adult now to troubleshoot some of the problems since we can usually figure out situation, due to experience.

My goal with streaming and creating content is simple. My mission to to spread love, laughs, and just a good time overall. I feel as if there is not enough of it in the world, especially online, so someone has to make the change, and I would love to be the one. My community is a home to a few, including myself, and we are only getting bigger!

What separates me from the rest of everyone else is being 100% authentic to my community. I let them in on my life and the get updates during the streams like big announcements in my life or streaming announcements. I love talking to my chat every time I stream, sometimes in between rounds, we can talk deep. Specially if someone is going through it, we always tend to help out and offer advice through situations. So when you click on a Cloutshot stream, it’s more than just gaming!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?

So far in my journey, growing as a content creator, I would say that networking and social media is the best way to grow.

By Networking, it brings you more friends and other people that are doing the same thing you are doing. For example, I recently joined a community called “Kansas City Game On”. Joining them help me promote myself and get my name out there to local people in Kansas City and also they have a amazing team that gives you help if you need anything!

Social Media is definitely a necessity for growing on any platform. Let’s say you get a good highlight in a game, make a short video and post it EVERYWHERE. I even went a little farther and shared it on my personal accounts. Every time you share something online to multiple platforms, the higher chance one of your videos will go viral. Trust me it’s the way to go!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

I believe what helped me at growing my brand is being above average at the games I’m playing. I feel like if your good at games you’ll have a higher chance at being successful. Personally I believe for me it’s cause I’m good at my games I play, share how to get better at them, play with my viewers, and honestly just have a good time while we are playing!
