Colt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, my name is Colt Liles and I am an alternative hip-hop artist from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
I first started in the music scene as a photographer who loved to travel from city to city. I was inspired by the artists on the big stages, which later led me to become a music artist myself. I was around a lot of local talent in my hometown and got an inside look into the pieces of the craft. I began to start writing my music and then met some close friends who helped me excel in my journey. I was truly able to find an outlet within music and doors started to open for me.
Outside of music, I am a creative providing services to businesses and fellow artists. I work with design, photography, videography, and social media. Being in marketing services has helped me fund my music dream and also learn how to create material such as merchandise, music videos, promos, and cover art. When I’m not working on one I’m working on the other, but it’s always creative work that drives my soul.
I think what sets me apart from others is a captivating sound and heartfelt lyrics. Using an authentic approach and vulnerability allow me to connect with the audience on a personal level, making a lasting impact. My songs tell stories of love, heartbreak, self-discovery, and resilience, providing a relatable and cathartic experience for the listeners.
As I continue to make a mark in the music industry, I feel poised for success on a larger scale. With talent, dedication, and genuine connection with the audience, I believe those are the ingredients for a promising career. The ability to evoke genuine emotions through music sets me apart most. I’m always inviting listeners into my world and encouraging them to embrace their own journeys.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the power to turn life’s raw experiences into lyrical art. It’s about using the music for therapy, just like so many songs helped me through difficult times. The thrill comes from connecting with listeners who vibe with authenticity, knowing that my words resonate in the hearts of those navigating the same trials and triumphs. It’s not just about making music; it’s about leaving a mark, telling stories that echo in the cities and reverberate through the hearts.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists by investing in arts education, providing accessible spaces, ensuring fair compensation, celebrating diversity, implementing supportive policies, fostering community engagement, and leveraging digital platforms. By nurturing a culture that values and respects the contributions of artists, society can create an environment where creativity flourishes, contributing to a richer, more dynamic collective experience.
