We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Collin Beasley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Collin below.
Collin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea about starting my own label after signing my music away to multiple over the last year and not seeing much turn around or support. I figured I could learn their process and attempt to execute it better. I took the nessary steps to obtain my LCC and started the label Lee’s Charms shortly after,

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a DFW local dj and producer. I’ve been making music for around 6 years, and I’ve been djing for 7 or so by now. I started doing little parties and parades. Shortly after I moved on to clubs and bars. Since 2019, I’ve performed at venues like South Side Ballroom, Stereo Live, and the bomb factory now known as just The Factory. I’ve had my original music signed to a few decent labels like High Five Music, FVDID, Glitch World Recording and a few others. I’ve been in and out of the scene here in DFW for some time and I’m ready to see what I can do for the city and other cities alike. My label gives 100% of all sales and royalties to the artist who trust me with their release. I’m tired of seeing label take 50%-60% from the artist just for the artiest to do all the leg work. This is a big issue to me in the music world.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Never sign away your masters to any song. What this means is, for some chance the label you’ve signed with decided to not be a label anymore, you’d lose all rights to music you created. You would not be able to take it elsewhere. It would just be gone. Keeping your masters is important to me as an artist. I want people to have full say of what happens to their creations.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Best strategy for me is being involved as much as possible. Meaning going to events. All of them. Even if you’re not directly involved, you’re supporting someone else who in return is more likely to support you. Word of mouth is one of the most powerful ways to get your brand or company the publicity it needs to get going.
