We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Collette. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Collette below.
Collette, appreciate you joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Back in January 2020, I decided that I should sit down and figure out streaming on Twitch. I bought a PC, mic, and Webcam, watched countless videos to understand OBS, suffered way too many mic issues, but I eventually got it right. I never could have expected what it spiraled into, because it all began as an effort to find new people to connect with. I was experiencing a bit of loneliness to be quite honest, and I was hoping that streaming would introduce me to new people to click with. I was right! I met some of the most wonderful people along the way, some of which I would definitely consider lifelong friendships.

Collette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Collette, but I use the username colletteisabear. At my core, I’m an artist. I just typically jump from medium to medium, so I wouldn’t call myself an experienced artist in any one medium. I used to stream (mainly horror games), and am actually looking at beginning streaming again as I’ve been missing it quite a bit. Out of everything, I’ve been most proud of the community of people I’ve met and the kindness they show- not only to me, but to each other. I truly believe that when you’re a “leader” of something, the community that builds around you is a reflection of you. And I’ve seen some truly wonderful gestures of kindness from the people I’ve been lucky to meet along the way.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
As an artist, I actually created an NFT set in the past that unexpectedly blew up and sold out. If I were to create those same works and try to sell them outside the realm of being an NFT, I would not have received the same result. I believe that NFTs are an incredible way for artists to be valued what they’re worth. It really opened up a more accessible avenue for art collectors and artists to view or sell their work or even reach a wider audience. Of course, all good things come with a price – theft, copycats, etc. So you absolutely need to be responsible and wary when entering that space. That being said, I recognize that it’s not for everyone.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mental sanity. I unfortunately am very prone to depression – but I always found that staying productive or creating has always helped me stay distracted from slipping into a dark mindset.
