Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Colleen Fischer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Colleen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
For the last six years, we have had the honor of partnering with The WARM Place to produce their impact video, which helps to communicate the mission through a personal story. The WARM Place is a nonprofit that provides grief support to children and teens. This is a deeply meaningful project to me because I am able to spend time getting to know individuals and families to help them feel comfortable opening up about painful experiences and emotions. Connecting with people is my favorite part of filmmaking, and life in general, and so this project is something I cherish. I have experienced a significant amount of loss in my early life and so I also am able to witness how truly powerful the organization is. And finally, knowing that the video we produce directly helps to raise funds is incredibly meaningful to me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My company, Genius House Media, is a full service video production shop – we produce videos for brands, organizations and corporations from scripting, filming and editing. My background is in communication & marketing, but I ended up in production because my husband is a filmmaker. We decided to combine our talents and start a company ten years ago and now work with clients from local to global. We love to travel and often have the opportunity to work on the road, which we always welcome.
What sets Genius House apart is partnerships. While on occasion we have “one and done” projects, we work best when we can deliver consistent, high quality video content to clients with lasting relationships. We worked with Dallas Symphony for five years on their digital content and have been a partner of U.S. Polo Assn., for six years, filming several times each year and continuously delivering videos. We also offer motion graphics animation in house so we truly are full service, allowing versatility, efficiency and high quality work.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When we first launched Genius House, I was focused on providing social media marketing services, as this type of work was where I had most of my previous experience. As the business evolved, it became clear that my time would be better suited focusing on video clients, business development, writing and producing. It felt like a sacrifice at first, but I have learned to see where I can add value, and this also frees up more of my time to work on the business, rather than in the business.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of our clients come from referrals and word of mouth. Excellent customer service and going above and beyond for our current partners is a priority for us naturally, and the trust we have created results in exponential solid relationships.
