We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Colleen Biggs a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Colleen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Indeed, I understand the profound impact of showing appreciation and nurturing connections. In my journey of empowering female entrepreneurs, I exemplify how genuine care and appreciation create a strong foundation for lasting relationships. I firmly believe that a simple “thank you” can go a long way in building trust and fostering loyalty. By acknowledging the value that others bring to the table and consistently expressing gratitude, I not only strengthen my network but also inspire a ripple effect of kindness and collaboration among those I touch. It’s a testament to my belief that true empowerment begins with genuine human connections. Specifically, I can remember a time when a contact I had met briefly as a guest attendee at one of our events online was speaking about how she had a hard time getting up in front of others and speaking. After the event, I looked up her information, went into my send out cards account, and sent her a personal card with a picture of her on the inside that I found on her LinkedIn profile and mailed it to her. This card was a shout-out of how awesome she was and to be reminded of that often when she looks at this amazing confident photo of herself. These are the little things I do often, in addition to sending little notes of inspiration via text, FB messenger, voice text, etc. I’m never doing it to receive recognition, but rather to foster the kindness that we all so desperately need to be reminded of in our lives.
Colleen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I believe we’re all unique and possess God-given talents and strengths that make us unstoppable. When you’re unwavering in your purpose — and equipped with the right tools and guidance — driving revenue becomes easy! Knowing this, gave me the strength to begin my own journey as an entrepreneur back in 2019. I was working in Corporate America for 3 decades when I decided to retire. For 18 years of that time I spent launching new businesses with over 300 CEO’s. It was one of the most rewarding times of my life, celebrating the successes with my clients and keeping the American dream alive for families. Owning businesses brought a newfound freedom of time and money to each of these families and I also wanted that desperately for myself. As I found my way as an entrepreneur I knew I would need a community of women surrounding me as support, so I created a women’s organization for other business-building female entrepreneurs that included many visibility components. Little did I know that this community would organically grow into the Leap Community that supports female business owners in being seen, and heard and creates massive visibility for their brands. Today I have continued putting my business skill sets to use by supporting many females looking to expand their influence and generate more income. I love numbers and believe the path always becomes clear when you have a clear path of where you intend to go. Mix this with a dash of action steps, belief, and peak performance habits and you have the formula for a successful income-generating business. I enjoy hosting business-building retreats, VIP days, and women’s Empower & Elevate Conferences and work closely with many other organizations in volunteering my time to mentor non-profits.
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
There were two distinct moments in my journey in my business that almost stopped me in my tracks, and I’d like to share one of those with you today. Like many coaches out there, clients come and clients go. I generally work with my clients for 2-4 years, but occasionally clients have changes in their lives and go a different direction, meaning they realize that the work required to be an entrepreneur is not what they signed up for so they decide to get a job instead. I remember sitting at my desk Monday morning and 4 clients within a week had contracts expiring and they felt so great about their businesses that they had decided not to renew. I wasn’t expecting this and of course, like many of you, payroll was due for my team. AND I didn’t know how I was going to get the money to pay all of my bills, including payroll that week. So I did what any sane entrepreneur would do, I immediately put my head down, created a program tied a value and price point to it, and started selling it to everyone I spoke to, I sent out a newsletter, did live videos on social media, showed up to networking events and that was my ask. Before the week was out, I was able to generate enough income to pay my bills and keep my business afloat. As a quick reminder, I created this program out of nothing and sold something I had yet to create. So of course after that week, I went right to work for the deliverable promised and was greeted with many happy clients after delivery. That was a close call, but I knew I had the power to give up or do something about it. When faced with adversity and your back is up against the wall, are you going to rise to the occasion or crumble and fall? I will always choose to rise, and without having daily peak performance habits, I don’t know if that would be possible for me in every situation, It’s why I teach my clients Peak Performance habits as the foundation for everything we do in our businesses.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building my reputation in the market has certainly come from my pure authenticity as a person. I live by the oldest golden rule ever written, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. I believe in God, I believe in prayer, and I believe I’m not alone in this journey. I know that when we mix faith with belief and perseverance, thoughts become things. It’s how my business was created in the first place. I attribute much of this thought pattern to Napoleon Hill and the book Think and Grow Rich. I have read it, at least 8 times and teach many of the strong principles in this book. When we have a solid understanding of what we want and who we are, where we are going, and what actions it will take to get there. It makes the ride enjoyable! With that being said, I feel confident in being myself, knowing that I’m capable. I exude passion for the journey, my products, and my beliefs and this is shown in every podcast I speak on, every stage I step on as well as every interaction I have with possible customers or new business besties. My reputation has solely been built off my desire to treat others with respect, nurture contacts, show up authentically, and make an impact in women’s lives to continue building businesses that make them proud and create financial independence. It’s the American Dream, isn’t it?
