We recently connected with Colie Belieu and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Colie, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I am a yoga instructor in Park City, Utah specializing in prenatal and postnatal yoga. I have been teaching weekly classes to local mamas since 2014. With the onset of the COVID pandemic in 2020, I moved my classes online, but still felt a passion for getting the valuable information I have out to more mamas than just the one living in Park City. Thus I began writing the book, Mindful Motherhood: A yoga-based journey to pregnancy and birth. I went through my journals of past classes, gathering my favorite themes and content to apply to my book. At the same time I became pregnant with my first child and was able to incorporate my own experience into the book as well, writing from my own perspective and applying the themes to my pregnancy. I finished the book after my son was born, which allowed me to reflect on the journey with a different perspective. I found a book coach who was able to find an editor and graphic designer and turn my manuscript into a book.

Colie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Before becoming a mother, I was drawn to the perinatal community as a way of connecting with other women and working to make the world a better place by empowering and inspiring women to be the best versions of themselves and raise their children to do the same. I am now a mother of two, and as I have written a book focusing on the pregnancy experience of motherhood, I am now compiling a book that focuses on the postpartum and early motherhood journey. This book will have a more comical flare, as postpartum is quite a different experience, trying to find any moments for self-care and reflection amid the chaos of caring for a newborn, especially if its a second baby. I am hoping to release this book in the spring of 2025 as well as offer a new yoga class for the local women of the Park City area, welcoming postpartum women and beyond as we share in the amazing, challenging, and joyous experience of motherhood!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Over the years new mothers in the greater Park City area have been my main clientele, however with the onset of COVID my market grew as my classes moved online and I quickly realized I could connect with women nationally and internationally. As a mother, there may not always be time to attend a class, so my hope is that through my book women can access the information conveniently as it works for them.

Have you ever had to pivot?
The COVID pandemic was a huge moment where I had to pivot my business as my local yoga classes and following were growing and thriving. Ultimately the pivot ended up being positive as it allowed me the freedom in my time to work when I could as I grew my own family.
