Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Colette Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Colette , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The story behind the name of my business is different. I was getting introduced to so many women who were business owners. I was truly taken back by their journey because no two were alike and I could relate to all. I have always been a leader and a listener. In being an extrovert, I love talking to people and wanting to hear more about their journey and how it may impact someone else. In 2019, I had a vision that I was called to be a connector of women. I needed to share my testimony from God, but also allow a space for other women to share their testimonies as well. My vision had everything laid out. Business In Pearls was born. The name is paying homage to women’s femininity (pearls) and of course business (women are very serious about what they do for their clients, customers) just as much as men if not more. I started with inviting women on my Facebook page doing recordings and it was like a “show”. They were my Pearls. Women who were experts in their niche. Different women from across the country came on each week to drop Golden nuggets, if you will, about what they do. Myself and others were excited about this journey. Each month more ideas poured into me with being able to create strategic exposure for women and ultimately creating more wealth from that exposure. I branched off into obtaining my certifications in Advertising and Marketing. I have created a “Boutique” style experience for my clients that caters to what they need and how they need it done. My services expanded as the needs of clients approached me. I was constantly told by others that the journey I was on was amazing, not only what I was doing by empowering women in business, but by offering them a “sexy flow” of how they wanted their business to shine bright. When a vision is given to you by God, I see nothing wrong. It had to work and he showed me what to do and how it must be done.

Colette , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a former educator who by default wore many invisible hats. I was constantly adding into my career toolkit. I have always loved the world of being creative and it showed, from when I was a little girl, in my classroom, and now shines bright in my business of Marketing. I wanted to take my skills of Leader ~ Speaker ~ Trainer ~ Data analyst ~ Creator ~ Writer ~ Critical thinker ~ Communicator ~ Detailed oriented ~ Tech user ~ Certified Life Coach ~ Salesperson ~ Educational consultant, Problem solver, Event coordinator and package them. Going into being a certified Life Coach led to assisting others in their business life, which led to Business Coaching and then researching on how to assist business owners in being the best version of themselves. Marketing summed up all these things.
I offer a number of different services which allows me to stand out among people who I don’t consider a competition per say. The only competition I see is with myself. I am too busy doing what I do to focus on what the other “women” are doing. My services include:
*Public Relations work
*Project Manager
*Event coordinator
*Social Media content / Social Media Management
*Brand Ambassador services
*Content / Creative writing
*1:1 Marketing Coaching
*Business Blueprints
*Detailed S.W.O. T. analysis
*Custom Marketing product designs
*Podcasting
* Advertising consultation
*Web design
*Press Releases
I am proud of my services. I want prospective clients to know that I care about them and their business. I design packages to fit their needs and services. This way no two businesses are alike. I offer A la carte services so if someone only needs one particular service like PR work, then we can provide just that.
Recently, I was given the honor of being an Ambassador for the largest Small business networking platform in the country; Alignable. With over 7 million small business users and growing daily they have formed territory Alliances and I was named Ambassador for the Arlington, TX and Surrounding Areas territory. That area includes but not limited to: Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Midlothian, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Duncanville. My skillset, talents, and knowledge is being recognized and I am proud of myself.
I do get calls and clients that are men, and I like working with men as well. My suit may be different, but I can get the project done just as well as a man can.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
My lesson I had to unlearn was the 8 – 4+ hours mentality. Working an Educator for so long I got up early, drove an excess of 30 miles sometimes one way in morning and afternoon rush hour traffic only to get home and keep working. So for me getting up everyday for the past 20+ years at 5:00am, not being able to use the bathroom whenever I wanted, and always being busy doing something was a 360 degree turn. Being an Entrepreneur I had to find my FREEDOM! learn to set my own business hours, lunch breaks for however long I wanted and or my client needed, be able to travel during prime time hours, and more importantly be unapologetic to taking days off whenever I wanted to. It took me about 2 months to not feel that guilt that I took an hour lunch or went for a self care walk after lunch. The freedom to make my own schedule was an amazing feeling once I understood that I would not be in trouble for doing what I wanted to do. Knowing that if I want to start my day at 9 or 10am and stop my day at 2 or 3pm was pure joy!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe what helped me build my reputation is my circle of women who I associated with. They are amazing women who have that tenacity in getting things done and are accomplished in whatever they do. Their drive pushed me to push myself harder. In doing so, I continued to seek out the best in the business and market myself to shine bright just like I did with my clients. I Networked and told anyone and everyone about what I do. Showing up mentally, physically, and spiritually for me was the key. They always say,”Closed mouths don’t get fed!” That is absolutely correct. I take pride and a “buy in” to my own services and Brand products. If you don’t, then why should anyone else.
