Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cole Davis . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I finally picked up a guitar and realized I could make some noise with it that’s when I realized I wanted to do that for the rest of my life. I’m always trying to get better at the guitar I’m always trying to find different ways to play it in different genres. I am a really creative person at heart so playing music and singing is perfect for me because I can create whatever song I want or whatever noise I want. I’m always trying to find the perfect tone. Seems to be in never ending quest but it’s so fun trying to get there. There is nothing like the joy you get from Making an entire room full of people happy from your music. When my parents heard me playing the guitar one time in my basement and heard that I was playing things above average they ran downstairs and had the biggest smile on Their faces. They knew I had a gift and it made me want to pursue it even more. Getting to share my gift with people is such a fulfilling feeling.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cole Davis and I am a singer songwriter guitar player musician. I got into the music when I saw a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan playing the guitar and just completely slaying it. It looks like he was just pouring his heart and soul into it and I wanted to be as good as him. The guitar is the perfect instrument for me because I love playing whatever comes in my head and it’s heart makes that super easy for me to do. I didn’t start seeing till later. I’ve only been seeing for about 5 to 6 years. I am self-taught on guitar and singing. I’ve only had one vocal coach lesson my whole life but I’m always trying to get better at what I do. I go by Cole Blue Steel when I play out and how I got that name was actually from Steve Ray Vaughn’s early road manager Cutter Brandenburg. My whole goal is to play music professionally and spread as much joy as I can through music. I have an album out on Apple Music Titled Cole Blue Steel and it has 10 tracks all originals. I recorded the whole record mixed and mastered it produced it all by myself. You can find my songs on it and titled bonfire sunset in Oklahoma and goodbye Summer. I’m actually currently working on a new record right now. I’ve been playing a new song I wrote called Headed Home at my shows which will be on this record. Speaking of my shows I am very lucky to have such a loyal fan base known as the steel herd and we always have such a great time at the shows. I guess you could say I want my music to make people forget about their day-to-day stuff and just enjoy them selves.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The thing that’s driving my music now is I want to teach my daughters that no matter how big your dreams are you can always chase them and you can always do what you wanna do in this life. We all have such a short time and we need to make the most of it. I feel like I have so much to share with the world and I want to make my mark on music. I want to push boundaries I want to write songs that will be remembered forever.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
A super rewarding thing about being an artist is hearing the finished product. Whenever I write a song and record it and work really hard on it to make it sound the best I can once it’s done and I can just listen to it in the car it’s just so rewarding. Just to know you’re part of some thing like that it makes your heart feel good. It’s one of the best feelings in the world. Another rewarding feeling is when you just have a show you’re playing and everything is going right the sound is perfect and everyone’s getting into it you get in a state of ecstasy and it’s hard to come down from sometimes. There is actually a ton of rewards from being a musician but I think One of the most important rewards is the people that you touch with your music and the joy it brings them and how it changes their lives. I have met a lot of great people just through my music and if I didn’t play music I wouldn’t have any idea who some of these people are and I love the fact that music for us all together.
