We recently connected with Cole Bain and have shared our conversation below.
Cole, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think some would call this typical lol but I knew at an early age. I was put in band growing up and in choir, church and school. Life had its way of taking me in other directions that I planned on but I never lost touch. While playing sports (High School, College, Professionally) I would keep in touch with my gift listening to an array of artist or sneaking into the band hall at school. It wasn’t until a friend of mine had me come to his studio as he was working on an album and had me make a few beats for him. At that moment I understood my purpose, I didn’t know where it would take me but I understood my path.
Cole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I go by COLEBAIN, I am a music producer out of Dallas, TX. I got into the music industry by going back to my roots and making music for friends. At the time I never thought to much about it but cultivating my sound really made people take notice. This may not be the way it would work for some but I would send free tracks to artist or people that I knew in the industry to get feedback and the word spread from there. Its still a struggle at times but you keep pushing and believe that your work is undeniable and no matter the obstacle you keep pushing doors down. With that being said I feel my style sets me apart from a lot of producers. I had a friend tell me my style is as if Timbaland and Pharell had a baby lol, not saying that I am either of the two but elements of my creations have a similar sound. I would say that its simply VIBE music, no matter what energy you are looking for you can find it in the groove. I don’t like to fit in any box or lane. I guess you can say I was the kid who colored outside the lines. The thing I’m most proud of on this journey is the fact that I took the leap to release my vision and sound to the world. I’m such a perfectionist and I want my product to be right but understanding art is subjective I love for people to take the ride with me and realize my growth. I’m also proud that I started my production company “SLAP COLEBAIN PRODUCTIONS”. I want to help others reach their dreams like I was given the opportunity to do.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A valuable lesson I had to learn is that Your gift can’t be unwrapped if you never present it. I was the creative that made music all the time and would constantly prefect it day and night but it was collecting dust on my computers and hard drives. It wasn’t until May 31, 2020 everything changed. I got into a bad car wreck and as they say everything became clear. I was lost and didn’t know where to turn as I thought to myself what have I done to make a difference or what effect do I have. A conversation with my brother put the wheels in motion. He voiced to me that the world needed to hear my gift and if I thought that I couldn’t create more or grow then hold on to it but if you are that guy then release it, and so the birth of the BAINTAPE was formed. Along with seeking out new projects from movies, TV and web series, as well as artist, I want everyone who can hear to experience my sound and Vibe.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an Artist and creative is the different outlook it gives me in life. Just like taking a sample of a popular 70’s song and figuring a different rhythm or melody or taking a random sound and making it fit in a pocket no one would ever imagine makes everyday life decisions easy for the most part. I don’t get frustrated easily and the way I problem solve gives solutions at every angle. To simply put it, everything is not blasck and white, you have to live in color.
