We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Coldgamesixx a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Coldgamesixx, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Learning the craft of music is something that I feel I’ve subconsciously always done since birth, whether it be hearing new music as a child and knowing I liked the beat, playing various instruments and singing throughout my life up until now where everyday is a learning experience. Every song I listen to, spending hours listening to beats passively or purposely, all of that has led me here.
Coldgamesixx, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is coldgamesixx. In all honesty it started as my Playstation user name. I always wanted to make music and it just stuck when i started, I didn’t have to think too hard about a name. I really think the name kinda reflects the energy of the music too. I’ve always loved music but never had the space or resources to create until i finally did. And my love for the art reflects in it as well. I’ll always make music no matter what because that’s what it was always about.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I control how the ship is steered and I think it’s beautiful. I control my style, I control my image and can reinvent on the go. There’s no kind of chains on my expression and that’s lovely, I think it should be that way for all creatives. I could wake up one day and *boom* i drop a rock album, I could switch my whole style up based on how I’m feeling at that moment. You can be whichever version of yourself you need to be. If I decide I wanna learn how to make a blues record into something crazy I can do that. The whole process gives me a rush,
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I’ve learned in my short journey so far that this current system we’re in isn’t built for everyone to succeed as far as artistic expression goes. They’re shutting down music programs in the school, The kids aren’t in the choirs anymore. The average person looks at being a creative as a “pipe dream” or “longshot” when really you should be learning and creating every day no matter what you’re working on..a lot of times those people were told no too much or that their ideas were “stupid” and now they project that onto artists saying what they can and can’t do. Man please, that’s wack. Everybody should be able to be freely creative.
